Newswire / West Palm Beach Antiques Festival to Begin Summer Shows with July 2,3 Event – Collectibles/Antiques – Gail Taylor

June 22nd, 2011

The final West Palm Beach Antiques Festival Show of the regular season was held June 3,4 and 5 and show owners Kay and Bill Puchstein reported another lively event to top off the 20th Anniversary of the Festival in the same location. The Puchsteins are looking forward to the popular two day Summer schedule that begins in July. The West Palm Beach Antiques Festival Summer series provides the only major monthly show in Florida to run all Summer with major dealers in attendance. The Puchsteins say that many dealers who set up last summer?s shows have told them that the summer shows were their best shows of the year. The number of dealers each month drops to between 200 and 300, but the attendance stays about the same as the shows when they have 400-600 dealers. Therefore, the dealers have less competition from other dealers and everyone sells better. One of the dealers who always does well at the Summer Shows is Len Bartkowiak. He is one of the most interesting and personable of the dealers who has a ?Study of Everything? approach to the business. Len Bartkowiak wants to know everything he can about as many things as possible and his booth backs up his quest. The most often asked question in his booth is ?What IS this?? and that just what he wants to hear. Bartkowiak has more than 10,000 items for sale in his space, focused primarily on 18th and 19th century very high quality, very unusual smalls including knives, jewelry, perfume bottles, Orientalia, ivory, cloisonn?, dresser boxes, silver, other interesting items and much more. He boasts that ?Nobody will ever see it all.? among his knife collection are high grade custom knives, hand made versions, collector?s knives, foreign knives and ethnic variations. He currently has a French knife with over 100 blades, circa 1880. The price? If you have to ask. Bartkowiak has been at the Show for over twenty years and has built up a loyal following of customers in the area. over his years in the business he has been abroad on buying trips forty-one times, twenty-eight of those to England. He has done over 1,600 shows in his career and he is especially fond of this one. his booth won best Booth of the Show the first time the Award was offered based on presentation, professionalism, personality of the dealer and the visitor friendly atmosphere. If you want to see something you have never seen and learn something you didn?t know, drop by Bartkowiak?s place. He says he is always ready to deal, buying or selling. The format for the entire Summer Season will be the two day affair, Saturday and Sunday instead of the normal three day event during the regular season. Summer show dates will be July 2-3, August 6-7, September 3-4 and October 1-2 with a full day of setup for dealers on Friday 8:00AM to 7:00PM. The Puchsteins have lowered dealers? booth rent for the Summer Season over the normal show fee. The popular ?Early Buyers Admission? feature will be continued in the summer starting at 9:00AM on Saturday before the regular Show opening time of 10:00AM. Summer Show Early Buyers admission has been reduced to $10 and is good for both days of the Show. Adult daily admission $7.00, seniors $6.00 with a 1$ discount coupon for adult admission available on the website. Anyone under 16 is admitted free. there is no charge for parking at the Fairgrounds. The West Palm Beach Antiques Festival (wpbaf.com) is held at the South Florida Fairgrounds located off Southern Boulevard in West Palm Beach, FL, 1.5 miles west of the Florida Turnpike and 1 mile east of 441/SR7.

Sterling Silver Chick in an Egg Christmas Ornament

September 20th, 2010

We find the most interesting Christmas Collectibles For Sale. Here are the best deals we found for Sterling Silver Chick in an Egg Christmas Ornament for sale on the Internet.

Sterling Silver Chick in an Egg Christmas Ornament Picture(s) and Description:

Sterling Silver (.925) Chick in an Egg Christmas Ornament I do not know who the manufacturer of this ornament is. It is hallmarked on the bottom with a 925. It is three dimensional with the design being the same on both sides. it could also be used as an Easter ornament! NOTE: This ornament has a dent in it. You can see the dent in the 2nd photo. Hence, the 99cent starting bid. I don’t know if it can be repaired, but can be used as scrap or by someone doing an art project. The ornament is 3 inches long (including the bail) by 1 1/2 inch wide, so it shows well on a Xmas tree. It does not have its original box, bag or paper insert. This ornament is beautiful on a Xmas tree, or a pendant necklace, or hanging on a Christmas garland or wreath. The hallmarks are as follows: On the bottom is THAILAND and SILVER 925 I am listing lots of jewelry items from my personal collection. There are Ross Simons, Lunch at the Ritz (LATR), Honora pearls, Joan Rivers, Kabana, among other wonderful pieces…so please check out my other auctions to see the others. I will be posting items off and on as I decide what pieces to keep and what to let go of. Now that I am retired, I don’t need such an extensive jewelry collection. In addition, I will be listing pieces from my sterling silver Christmas ornament collection and eventually my Department 56 Snowbabies collection. So, if there are any pieces in particular you are interested in, please let me know, and I can list them. Feel free to ask questions. It’s no problem to take additional photos for you if that will help. Shipping inside the US is $6.00 and includes priority mail shipping with delivery confirmation so you can track your package. It’s no problem to combine items & save you shipping fees. If you wish this shipped outside the US, please contact me for shipping costs. Insurance is $1.80 & is optional. Rare German DSM 34 .22 Military Rifle Sells For $1955

May 5th, 2010

Rare Scoped German DSM 34 .22 Military Trainer Rifle Made By Mauser, Oberndorf Sells For $1,955 In Online Sale Conducted By Soldusa.Com

Rare, scoped German DSM 34 .22 caliber trainer rifle made by Mauser, Oberndorf ($1,955).

MATTHEWS, N.C. --(Ammoland.com)- A rare, scoped German DSM 34 (Deutsches Sportmodell 34) .22 caliber military trainer rifle made by Mauser, Oberndorf – a highly sought after military rifle collectible – hit the mark for $1,955 in an Internet and catalog auction that ended Mar. 20-21 by SoldUSA.com.

The weapon was a top lot in the more than 1,200 items that came up for bid.

“With the implementation of new proprietary software, the site saw record attendance for what was a fantastic overall auction,” said Chris Roberts, president of SoldUSA.com. “We had over 2.1 million hits in the final two days, with over 3,500 different bidders. The sale focused mainly on hunting, advertising and militaria, and we saw high prices posted across the board.”

The German trainer rifle was of a particularly desirable variation because it had a factory installed German ZF 41 military sharpshooter telescope, coded CXN (Emil Busch AG, Optische Industrie).

“We’re not sure if this was done by Mauser or the German military, but it is definitely a professional job,” Mr. Roberts said. “All in all, the rifle is a great addition to any collection.”

Following are additional highlights from the sale. All prices quoted include a 13 percent buyer’s premium.

A World War II-era German NSDAP political leader’s uniform, consisting of a tunic, pants, shirt and tie, in very good condition and rare to find as a set, realized $1,898. The tunic was pre-1939, with no piping on the collar. It had all the buttons and a 3-piece, sewn-on arm band and enameled party pin. Also included was a political gold lanyard with oak leaf ends.

A U.S. model 1861 .58 caliber percussion musket – one of only 11,000 made by the firm of S. Norris and W.T. Clement for the government of Massachusetts – gaveled for $1,305. The gun appeared to be complete and original and the 40-inch barrel had a grayish patina. The other metal parts looked like they hadn’t been touched. The 1864 dated lock was marked by the maker.

The sides and top of the stock were stamped with the number 12, about 1 ½ inches ahead of the butt plate. The inspector’s mark on the left side of the stock was faint but visible. The only flaws were two parallel stress cracks from the start of the butt plate forward and a pair of cracks to the wood below the rear sight. Mechanically, the hammer held solidly at half and full cock.

An early 17th century original Saxon horseman’s hammer, constructed completely from iron, with a small turned hammer head balanced by a long beak-shaped fluke of still diamond section and with a spherical finial, climbed to $1,009. The hammer, 21 ½ inches in length, “is a true piece of late medieval armament that is truly authentic in every way,” Mr. Roberts said.

A World War II-era Japanese wartime-made Samurai sword, with a leather-covered scabbard and an unusual leather-colored wood handle, coasted to $706. The blade was wartime-made, with a blood groove, bright and clean with only some minor spots near the tip. The blade was 26 ¼ inches on a sword that measured 38 inches and was in overall very good condition.

A World War II German national war flag, printed on wool, with a reinforced end and a rope with loops for flying, rose to $564. The flag boasted a nice size for display – 30 inches by 54 inches. The maker mark was stamped on the bunting and sized “Kr. Fl. 80 x 135.” The flag, bright and clean, with no holes or tears, was black light-tested and was overall very good plus.

SoldUSA.com’s next big sale will go online in early May and conclude in late May. Featured will be high-end ammo collectibles, advertising items, rare tin signs, die-cuts, posters, calendars and many other hunting and fishing collectibles, plus militaria. The auction after the May auction is slated for sometime in the fall, with start and end dates still to be determined.

SoldUSA.com is one of the oldest Internet companies in the world. It was launched in 1990 by Robbie Roberts, who began the firm as Dixie Sporting Collectibles. Mr. Roberts very shrewdly took note of the firm’s success with online sales and grew it into what it is today – SoldUSA.com, the premier hunting collectibles Internet auction site with 42,000 registered users.

Early 17th century original Saxon horseman’s hammer, made entirely of iron ($1,009).
