Nintendo 3DS passes 5 million in sales in Japan, breaks record – Australian Nintendo News Source – Vooks – 3DS – Wii- DS

March 12th, 2012

Fastest console to 5 million, even beating the Wii, DS and Gameboy Advance.

Nintendo Japan has announced that the Nintendo 3DS has now sold through 5 million Nintendo 3DS consoles in Japan. the achievement comes just a week short of its first anniversary of going on sale in Japan. this now makes the 3DS the fastest selling console to reach that mark, beating the Gameboy Advance which took 58 weeks and the Nintendo DS which took 56 weeks. the Nintendo 3DS got off to a really slow start as the chart Nintendo provided with the press release shows. it wasn’t until the 25th week where Nintendo dropped the price that the sales took off, they then took off again upon the release of Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land and Monster Hunter Tri G around week 43. Nintendo says they plan on growing the sales of the system further with new games, we hope that too Nintendo.

November 8th, 2011

Sony’s undead game console: PlayStation 2 sales hit 150M after 10 years

May 13th, 2011

The Sony PlayStation 2 launched way back in 2000. but it refuses to die. Sony said today it has shipped more than 150 million units worldwide.

After 10 years and 11 months, Sony hit the 150 million units (shipped into stores, not sold to consumers) milestone on Jan. 31. That’s a pretty big accomplishment, considering that Sony launched the PlayStation 3 in 2006 and that most buyers of new consoles have opted for the newer machine.

But it shows that older technologies are still fashionable in many parts of the world where the cost of new technology is prohibitive. In fact, it really isn’t such a crazy idea to make a game for the PlayStation 2. to date, some 10,828 titles have shipped on the PS 2 and more than 1.52 billion games have been sold for the PS 2.

The PS 2 had some eye-popping graphics for its day, and it introduced innovations such as the DualShock 2 vibrating controller, the EyeToy camera, and a bunch of cool games from God of War to Gran Turismo. The PS 2 was also the first home entertainment system to integrate DVD technology. At the time, people thought Sony was crazy. but the success of the PS 2 helped establish DVDs as the format of choice for movies for years to come.

The PS 2 is still selling strongly in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and South America.

Game Boy : Nintendo m?a encore tuer – ma premi?re console portable – Ma “carri?re” de joueur : 80% d’histoire – 20% d’Histoire – GAMEBLOG.fr

May 10th, 2011

How I Voted For "The Art of Video Games," Part 3

April 22nd, 2011

<!– no comments –>  permalink

The Skinny: The Smithsonian gathered votes for its upcoming Art of Video Games and this week, I detail what I threw my weight behind. Part one is here. Part two is here. Today, I talk about my picks from the Sega Genesis System/Super Nintendo Entertainment system era.

Era 3: Bit Wars!

The thing about console video games is that you have to choose a machine. that choice defines you in some way and some effed-up part of human nature demands that you vilify who make a different decision. Current-day fan rage over the Xbox pwning the PS3 owes its roots to this kind of tension, which reached a flashpoint when the Genesis and SNES were duking it out for parental dollars. a lot of the marketing jargon tropes were the same: the games you want only come out for this system, our technology is way betterthan their little baby technology, etc. if memory serves, the console fanboy flame wars weren’t quite as disproportionately ugly in the 1990s as they are now but, then again, this was before the Internet changed everything. as the mostly proud owner of a Sega Genesis, I’d always wonder if I was truly happy without all those Nintendo games exclusive to the SNES. My peers tossed and turned at night over the same angst. so it goes today, eh?

Sega GenesisTarget Genre“Gunstar Heroes”what makes this side-scrolling co-operative shooter worthy of enshrinement? in a word, choice. You could choose which weapons to start off with and, as you progressed, you could combine them with other guns to create unique attacks. You’d need them against the game’s hardcore difficulty and cleverly designed bosses. other trailblazing innovations was health management that did away with one-hit deaths, the ability to choose a shooting style and he option to start the game and You coul just tell by paying “Gunstar Heroes” that its great looks and insane action were the result of unfettered imaginations work in tandem. The end result gave players unprecedented freedom in a game felt like an adrenaline-fueled action cartoon.

Adventure Genre“Flashback: The Quest for Identity” I remember this sci-fi adventure as being one of the first times I really noticed the way a game animated. Even though developer Delphine Software used rotoscoping like earlier classics “Prince of Persia” and Another World,” I came to this game first and discovered its stylistic predecessors later. The animation style made the characters more expressive, which in turn made me more invested in the interplanetary conspiracy plot. when hero Conrad ran or jumped, I saw the effort in his body language. He needed me to get him to safety. I adored this game, even if I didn’t know enough to figure out that it was drawing heavily on cyberpunk genre tropes. The lush animation also reinforced clever design ideas and a cinematic approach, too. “Flashback” felt like a big evolutionary step, like a medium starting to mature in the way it used its tools. I felt more mature, too, just for playing it.

Action Genre“Earthworm Jim”

Humor in video games is generally accidental, and even intentional laugh-seeking tends to stumble out awkwardly like someone shoved it onstage from the wings. “Earthworm Jim” proved the exception. From its very premise, which has an earthworm donning mislaid power armor to become a barrel-chested hero to its cartoony look, “Earthworm Jim” was a farcical and self-aware creation. The humor was shot through its gameplay, too, what with all the cow launching and head-as-a-grappling-hook moves. The game still stands an example of really good comedy in video games, achieved by being serious about its silliness.

Super Nintendo Entertainment SystemAction Genre“Donkey Kong Country”These days, it’s Mario this, Mario that. But, the jump-happy plumber was only part of the formula that made Nintendo the success that it became. The other half–giant, girl-stealing ape Donkey Kong–moldered in obscurity. “Donkey Kong Country” gives props to the ape who REALLY started it all for Nintendo, as we find out about his family. The gameplay let players switch back and forth between the bigger, stronger Donkey Kong and the smaller, faster Diddy Kong as they hunted down the big monkey’s stolen banana hoard. while the option to play as two different characters appealed to gamers, it was really the eye-popping graphics that won them over. Seeing it at a friend’s house, I couldn’t believe that these images were coming from a system that had been billed as inferior to its competitors. “DKC” made me-and many others-a believer in the power of Nintendo all over again at a time when they desperately needed that.

Link Your PSN Account to Your PSU Account — Scrawl

April 8th, 2011

Sony has just updated the official PlayStation forums allowing you to finally link you PSN account to your PSU username registered with the site. this is a feature that has been lacking from the community side of the spectrum as the forums are heavily used. this now brings the community a little closer together as you can check your account at any time and see who is who in the forums.

With the update comes a few new features:

• The ability to see who is who on the forums. the forums now list your PSU name as well as your PSN name on any of your posts if your account is linked.

• the ability to check your PSN Friends List online. It shows when they last logged in, what game they are playing, and their current comment.

• the ability to generate a portable ID. It basically is a quick and easy signature you can use on other forums, etc to show off who you are. You can see mine below. the one issue I noticed is that a lot of the avatars don’t show right as you can see mine is all pixelated on the edges.

If you want more information you can check out the official FAQ, but that is pretty much what it includes. hopefully they add in trophies and your gamercard at a later date. Regardless, it seems like Sony is making some nice changes as E3 is right upon us. makes you wonder what else Sony might have in store for us?

Some Cool Toys The Kids Will Love

March 6th, 2011

Every year numerous adults find it tougher to choose a good toy for a kid, the more choice the tougher it turns into. do we go for the latest craze or do we go for something a little more timeless? these days we’ll take an appear at a few toys which are sure to be played having a lot and very much appreciated by any kid that will get them. We will appear at Hedbanz and how you can train your Dragon toys.

With the cool new Hedbanz game for children we are getting some thing that’s fantastic fun for kids but it can also be a fun packed family members sport as well. Children love it when adults play games with them and this 1 definitely will not be considered a chore.

We don’t have to learn lots of rules, we simply choose a card and put it dealing with out in our headband. We then have 1 moment to inquire as many concerns as we can to attempt to guess just who it’s that we’re. We have to be quick and believe on our ft, but for small kids you will find also cards that they can look at to assist them to think of questions if they get caught.

With the how you can train your Dragon toys we have quite a choice. Because almost all kids have noticed the movie we are fairly much guaranteed to be picking a winner of the current if we get their favorite character. We can choose from numerous static figures from the cast or we can get the outstanding plush toys option. the plush make plenty of noise if you bang then around the head so they’re one of the greatest options.

Ideally this has supplied just a little bit of inspiration in the event you had been just a little bit uncertain of just what to buy this yr for children. There’s merely no doubt that toys like they are going to become actual winners.

Toys from movies are an especially great idea for that kids. If they have a preferred character from a movie then if they get a toy of that character they are certain to truly adore it. It’s one of the absolute greatest ways to buy a toy assured to impress.

Radius Atomic Bass 2 + Mic Earphones

February 25th, 2011

I’ve reviewed two versions of Radius’ Atomic Bass earphones for Macworld–the $40 standard version ( Macworld rated 3 out of 5 mice ) and the $50 headset version ( Macworld rated 3 out of 5 mice )–and found both to be solid $50-and-under canalbuds. the company recently updated both models, incorporating a few modest tweaks and lowering the price of the headset version by $10. I had the opportunity to test the new headset, now named the Radius Atomic Bass 2 + Mic Earphones.

Like the original, the Atomic Bass 2 + Mic is a canalbud-style headset. Canalbuds split the difference in design–and usually price–between traditional earbuds and in-ear-canal (“canalphone”) models. (See our in-ear-canal headphone primer for more details.) the earpieces fit partially in the ear canals, so they block some external noise and, ideally, form an acoustic seal that improves bass performance. however, canalbuds don’t block as much noise as true in-ear-canal models, and, as with canalphones, getting a proper fit can be tricky and the cord can produce unwanted microphonic noise in a listener’s ear.

The Atomic Bass 2′s earpieces are similar to the capsule shape of the original. Listeners with smaller ears can wear the earpieces with the cable exiting downward and the capsule protruding, or the earpieces can be turned upside down, with the cable draped up and over the ear, allowing for a more-canalphone-like fit for people with larger ears. Radius claims the different cord on the new version increases durability, and it does feel stronger than the cables used in the previous design. the company also says the cable’s rubbery coating helps prevent tangling.

The cables going to the left and right earpieces are now even lengths–the cables differed in length in the previous version so you could drape the longer cable behind the neck–and the remote/microphone module on the left cable uses a slightly different design than before. unfortunately, this is still a one-button (Play/Pause/Call) remote that does not include the increasingly common volume controls, and I find that single button to be more difficult to press than before.

Three sizes of smaller-than-average silicone eartips are included. the package also contains a round carrying case, but half of the case is mesh rather than solid, so it feels less protective than a fully rigid case.

I found that, for me, wearing the headphones upside-down produced the best results, and I found the fit of the Atomic Bass 2 almost identical to that of the previous version: it was easy to get a good seal, but the positioning was sometimes uncomfortable. the original Atomic Bass had an excellent microphone, and the Atomic Bass 2′s microphone continues to offer good performance–in my testing, voices were as natural and rich as with the iPhone 4′s internal microphone, but with less background noise. none of the headsets I’ve evaluated in the past few months have been able to match the iPhone 4′s internal microphone, so this is impressive performance.

Although Radius claims the Atomic Bass 2 has been tweaked to produce more-balanced audio, it’s actually bassier than I recall the original being (although it’s been almost a year since I last heard that model). the midrange is recessed compared to the bass, and the high frequencies tend to be similarly buried under the bass. the result sounds smooth, but lacks the detail of better canalbuds.

Overall, I don’t like the Atomic Bass 2 relative to the competition as much as I remember liking the original. To be fair, that doesn’t mean that the new model is worse. It’s just that the competition in this price range has improved over the past year. the Atomic Bass may have beaten the $20 and $30 canalbuds I reviewed in 2009, but when I compared the Atomic Bass 2 to the $20 Altec Lansing Muzx Mesh MZX106W Macworld rated 3 out of 5 mice I recently reviewed, I preferred the Mesh, which is less bass-heavy and offers slightly better treble detail. (The Atomic Bass 2 does provide superior bass detail and a remote/mic module, which the Mesh lacks.) I also compared the Atomic Bass 2 to the $50 Skullcandy 50/50 ( Macworld rated 3.5 out of 5 mice ), which, ironically, has even bigger bass than the Atomic Bass, as well as better midrange detail, although I preferred the Atomic Bass 2′s overall balance. Finally, in my review of the first Atomic Bass headset, I think I shortchanged the $49 NuForce NE-7m ( Macworld rated 3.5 out of 5 mice )–in direct comparisons to the Atomic Bass 2, I found the NE-7m to be distinctly better thanks to a more-neutral (but still warm) tonal balance and better detail at all frequencies.

Macworld’s Buying Advice

The Atomic Bass 2 + Mic occupies bit of an awkward price point, given its performance. If you’re willing to sacrifice headset functionality, similar audio quality can be had for $20 less with the Muzx Mesh, and an extra $10 gets you a significant step up in quality with the NuForce NE-7m. For $40, though, the Atomic Bass 2 offers strong bass; pleasant, warm sound; and headset functionality with a great microphone. and it may be a particularly good fit for listeners with small ears.
