Be MTV's First Twitter Jockey, Make Six Figures in 140 Characters …
We were kind of hoping they’d call it a “Twee-J,” but that would probably mean a DJ who just plays Belle & Sebastian songs on a constant loop. We were also hoping this would mean MTV would go back to actually showing music videos, but it doesn’t look like that’s the case either.
But MTV, that channel that invented the term “VJ” to describe its music-video hosts, is trying to get hip with the young people by hiring its first “Twitter Jockey,” or “TJ.”
MTV is looking for a “social media superstar” to use Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and the like to interact with the network’s viewers and relay their findings back to network execs, according to the Associated Press. The TJ would also report at events like the MTV Video Music Awards and make occasional on-camera appearances, according to the AP report.
MTV has already chosen 18 candidates for the TJ and is on a nationwide search for the last two. So ATTENTION YOUNG PEOPLE OF AMERICA: this is your chance to make six figures doing what you probably already do for free on a daily basis.
Beginning yesterday, Twitter and Facebook users can go online and nominate TJ hopefuls. The 20 nominees will compete in online social media challenges all summer to test their ability to connect with MTV’s demo (“Challenge No. 1: Live-Tweeting the next political discourse between John McCain and Snooki.”). The final five will compete in a live show in New York on Aug. 8. The TJ position will be based in New York and have a six-figure salary.
To nominate one of your social media-obsessed friends for the gig—or your excessively-tweeting, hopelessly-broke self—get the app or submit via Twitter here.
