Antiques roadshow coming to Massillon
round up your gold, silver and rare antiques — the Ohio Valley Refinery & Roadshow is returning to Massillon. The free show runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at Santangelo’s Party Center, 1008 Ninth St. SW. Ohio Valley Refinery & Roadshow acts as a liaison between sellers and collectors, according to Matthew Enright, the company’s vice president of media relations. “The Ohio Valley Refinery & Roadshow makes offers based on what collectors are willing to pay. After one decides to sell an item, he or she is paid on the spot. then, the road show sends out the item to the collector,” Enright said. Sellers are invited to bring an unlimited number of items with them, he said. The company offers fair market value to sellers, rather than providing an appraisal of their items, according to Enright. “we have a list of six references we check to find a median value … There is no obligation or any pressure to sell,” Enright said. Gold, collectible coins and guitars have sold well at recent shows but collectors also are looking for unique items. Recently, an Ohio woman wanted to sell a letter that George Washington wrote to his doctor’s wife. “It’s unbelievable some of the stuff people have hoarded in their closets and attics,” Enright said. “behind every item, there is a story, which makes it fun for what we do.” both gold and silver have been popular items in recent months, with both markets hitting all-time highs. It’s possible some residents are selling their jewelry due to the recession, according to Enright. Ohio Valley can offer more competitive prices because it operates a refinery and deals with precious metal accumulators such jewelry stores, pawn shops and dentist offices, according to Enright. Enright advised residents not to clean their jewelry before bringing it to the show because that can diminish its value. “Let the collector clean it,” he said.
