Assuming the transfers are favorable (update: everyone says the transfers are advantageous, better than the used ones), this looks like an expedient status. whether those with older DVD releases will want to upgrade will be a matter of personal preference, but I personally get the original commentaries and features very pleasing.

Here’s a bit about each film and the special features, contained in both the separate releases and the sets. The Ultimate Editions will also include some additional features, listed further below.

Dirty Harry Special Edition

Dirty Harry is generally regarded as a classic, the beginning of a second larger-than-life persona for Clint Eastwood (after The Man with No Name) . It’s the source of the celebrated “do you feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk? ” (The loyal quote is “… you’ve got to ask yourself a question: do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk? ” but the unusual doesn’t quote as well out of context.)

Tough cop “Dirty” Harry Callahan has his occupy simple, commonsense rules for dealing with crime, based on a strong sense of accurate and horrible and an impatience with needless details and constraints. The latter gets him into continual misfortune with the system which, as portrayed in the movie, is more about politics and bureaucracy than doing what needs to be done. This reflected well the frustrations and fears of Americans in the ’70s that criminals were taking over the streets and that the law was powerless to discontinuance them because the “criminal-coddling” courts were holding them succor. I personally value the Fourth Amendment and other such niceties and shiver to deem of some of the political and accurate ramifications of this movie (some of which are tranquil very great with us), but whatever one’s politics, Dirty Harry is very effective as a police-action thriller, largely because of Eastwood’s current persona. It’s hard not to care for and root for him even if you contemplate he’s not always honest. There are also the standard gunfights and car chases, and high suspense, all well done.

In the films that followed in the series, Harry became a somewhat more balanced, complex or confusing character, depending on your point of idea, coming down clearly on the side of the law against rogue vigilante cops, for example, and learning to enjoy a female cop as a partner, but the basic understanding of Harry standing strong despite the harmful, wimpy system remained.

I’m blissful to peep that some of the unusual special features in the place deal with the “issues” raised by the Dirty Harry films. I observe forward to seeing what others form of them.

The special features:

– recent commentary by filmmaker and Eastwood associate/biographer Richard Schickel– modern featurette “The Long Shadow of Dirty Harry,” on the influence and legacy of Dirty Harry– “Dirty Harry: The Recent,” with Clint Eastwood and the film’s creators looking wait on at the creation of the Dirty Harry character– “Dirty Harry’s Method,” a promotional short focusing on the toughness of the movie’s main character– interview gallery, with Patricia Clarkson, Joel Cox, Clint Eastwood, Hal Holbrook, Evan Kim, John Milius, Ted Post, Andy Robinson, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Robert Urich– “Clint Eastwood: The Man from Malpaso,” a 1993 TV program on his life and career, including scenes from his work and interviews with friends, fellow actors and crew members– trailer gallery: Dirty Harry, Magnum Force, The Enforcer, Sudden Impact and The Unimaginative Pool

Magnum Force Deluxe Edition

As the sequel to a classic film, it suffers some from the let-downs typical of sequels, but it’s mild Clint Eastwood being a tough guy, which is enough to carry the merely average situation and script and effect it friendly entertainment for Eastwood fans. I’d say that applies to all four sequels.

In this installment, Harry, the cop frustrated by the rules that own him help, shows he has his limits when he goes up against substandard vigilante cops killing criminals without any due process. as in the first movie, there’s plenty of action, a car toddle, suspense, people getting shot, etc.

– fresh commentary by director and Magnum Force screenwriter John Milius (“in this gritty, captivating commentary, legendary Hollywood screenwriter Milius discusses Eastwood, the world of Dirty Harry and the rugged resilience of crime drama in American cinema”)– fresh featurette “a good right: The Politics of Dirty Harry,” with filmmakers, social scientists and authors on the politics and ethics of the Dirty Harry films– “The Hero Cop: Yesterday and Today”– trailer gallery

The Enforcer Deluxe Edition

In this installment, Harry, the renegade cop with some old attitudes and no desire to be tied up with a partner, gets stuck with a female partner, well played by Tyne Daly. Surprise surprise, he learns to respect and rely on her as they create hamburger of a group of domestic terrorists. as in the first two movies, there’s plenty of action, suspense, people getting shot, etc., but with a glide on foot in state of the usual car tear.

– fresh commentary by Enforcer director James Fargo– original featurette “The Business end: Violence in Cinema”– “Harry Callahan/Clint Eastwood: something Special in Films”– trailer gallery

Sudden Impact Deluxe Edition

Sudden Impact inspires very mixed reactions, but it’s unruffled Clint Eastwood in a classic role, this time with Sondra Locke, his partner in several films and off-screen. Some people abhor Locke, but I consider she’s helpful with Eastwood. (I liked them even more in the Dirty Harryish Gauntlet and the very un-Dirty-Harry Bronco Billy.)

Harry is on forced leave for being his usual trouble-making self while getting the terrible guys, but unruffled finds himself in the middle of a string of murders that he undertakes to discontinuance. as in a couple of the others in the series, this movie includes a anecdote line where extralegal justice is an notify, as Locke’s damaged rape victim seeks revenge. with the usual action, shootings, and a high level of violence, with women getting their part.

This one is the source of the notorious quote, “go ahead, perform my day.” It was directed by Eastwood.

– fresh commentary by filmmaker and Eastwood associate/biographer Richard Schickel– unusual featurette “The Evolution of Clint Eastwood,” on the film in the context of Eastwood’s career as a director– trailer gallery

The Dumb Pool Deluxe Edition

The Monotonous Pool was blooming well received, considering its set in the series. It has a convoluted space about a game in which bets are taken on the deaths of celebrities, including Harry, with young Liam Neeson playing a questionable film director who’s playing the game. Issues of the celebrity-enslaved press are mixed with romance as Harry dates a reporter. as always, there’s plenty of action, suspense, gun play, and, this time, a fresh and hilarious car lope with a very petite but risky car.

– unique commentary by Monotonous Pool producer David Valdes and Unimaginative Pool cinematographer Jack N. Green– current Featurette “The Craft of Dirty Harry,” including the cinematography, editing, music, and production manufacture of the Dirty Harry films– trailer gallery

The Ultimate editions will occupy all of the above features, plus some:

– the feature-length documentary Clint Eastwood: out of the Shadows (which has been and is available separately)– 40+ page hardcover book– wallet with metal badge and removable ID card– five 5″ x 7″ lobby poster reproduction cards and an queer Ultimate Collector’s Edition card– “Scorpio: Portrait of a Killer” 19″ x 27″ blueprint of San Francisco detailing Harry’s hunt for the killer in the first film– never-before-seen production correspondence

The out of the Shadows documentary is a sizable bonus (87 minutes) for the Ultimate edition. You can gain it separately splendid cheap old-fashioned, though. There’s an Amazon page for it, with reviews, here.

WB have proven they know how to release classic titles with their exceptional multi-disc offerings from Astaire/Rogers and the Wizard of Oz and gone with the Wind and FORD/WAYNE etc etc…and now they have brought that same satisfactory packaging and extras to a grand more modern series DIRTY HARRY.

All the movies recognize distinguished better than ever before …maybe even better than they did in movie theatres. Previous extras are included …so no need to support extinct editions and each movie has titillating and mercurial appealing featurettes of approximately a half hour that do add considerably to the enjoyment factor. I’ve only listened to a couple of the commentaries…they all have unique ones. Professional Eastwood brown nose…er biographer Richard “windbag” Schickel doesn’t add worthy to Dirty Harry…but John Milius as insane as ever is a hoot on Magnum Force. I’m hoping the commentary on The Enforcer is well-behaved as its by the director…we have the aforementioned Schickel assist kissing butt on Sudden Impact so I’m not expecting enlightenment there.

Should you rob this box instead of the individual movies? …its a limited better imprint to seize them this draw but the individual movies have such cold graphics and packaging. There is a false badge in this position AND an exceptional documentary on Clint Eastwood “out of the Shadows” that all honest Clint fans owned already but IS included here…as well as mini theatre one sheets and a very nice letter from Clint about the series…tough call…oh and a nice book with photos and brief notes…so the whole package takes up about the same state as the individual DVDs for those wondering about shelf residence.

THe movies themselves are cessation to the heart of baby boomers like myself who may have liked John Wayne when we were kids but as we became high schoolers and grew up Clint was/is OUR guy. There is a exiguous decline in quality from movie to movie during the series as Clint ages and the writing has to derive more cute lines for him to toss off …but I enjoyed them all and level-headed do …with the possible exception of the Slow Pool…which is now more of a curiosity to me.

Bottom line…if you like Clint/Harry …you will be happy with the quality of prints, extras and packaging. in fact its so respectable I’m getting tempted to upgrade to blu-ray and obtain the state in that format!Fully Integrated DishwashersToddler Bunk beds

~SwEeTiE~: Club Crawl 2010

May 5th, 2010

The theme for this year’s club crawl is “happiness”. I like the layout of the sports hall and the performance area. Going to the toilet was however not that accessible due to the exit being blocked by the booths. The badges given out with accordance to the theme looks nice too. What a pity that I did not manage to collect all.

I was not really in the mood to do anything as I keep feeling very fatigue for both days. Headed to the booth and spend the rest of the day there after my class.

I missed the performance for the first day as no one informed me about it. Felt neglected. I did not spend much time there as I had lesson and after-action-review for Orientation. I went to buy the cake for the birthday celebration held later in the day while the others went on to trained at night. There was not any time available for me to go to the booth.

The second day was more happening for me. Missed the performance again. I had more time available to stay at the booth and walk around giving flyers. I did some kicking of the padding too. The silat and taekwando club were kicking padding too. Bored I guess. Near the closing of the event was rather boring as the crowd was not there.

I went to try out rock-climbing. It was fun! My hands were like jelly after the trial. I tried the second toughest first. Gave up halfway as I was not able to hang on. Tried the easiest and I managed to reach the top. Yes! Thank you WeiChong and William for helping me to take videos. It is a very memorable thing for me. It has been a tiring job for the rock-climbing people to ensure the safety of the participants. Thanks for their effort too.

With my jellied hands, I tried to drink water and was shaking really vigorously. I took a while to open the cap as I could not really feel my hand! What a great impact.

After a while, it was time to pack up. Clearing at the fastest speed, we removed all our things and it was time to go home. Took a ride in WeiChong’s car to the MRT station to take my bus. I alighted earlier as there was a jam and I have another bus to take from that bus-stop too. My hands were still jelly after reacihng home. The “jelliness” was there for the next few there though.

Turn Up The Heat – The Best Men's Jackets And Coats This Winter

March 31st, 2010

Typically, January is freezing, dark, wet and boring; but there is one good thing that cheers up this time of year – January sales! It’s the perfect opportunity to grab some farraginous pieces to work next season’s look around, and to keep you warm as it always seems a long time before spring comes around.

A new winter coat is a fantastic investment that you’ll never regret in this climate, especially if you’re lucky enough to find one in the sales. So if you didn’t get the one you were after for Christmas, now’s the time to treat yourself and there are loads of great options to choose from this season. Lightweight and shower proof, belted trench coats and macs are all over this season in muted tones of cream, grey and tan, and even metallic white which will give your look a snappy, futuristic twist. A good look is to keep the coat plain, but add a checked keffiyeh or patterned scarf – classy fringed silk scarves in paisley and prints are set to make a comeback as Versace used them at the recent Milano Fashion Week, and they’re surprisingly warm, as well as the fact girls love them! You’ll be able to keep wearing a trench coat well into spring, and then wear it with big aviator sunglasses for that essential ’70s detective look – very cool.

The rocker look – black leather jackets teamed with skinny white t-shirts and black jeans – is still going strong and leather biker and bomber jackets continue to rock the catwalks, with the constant trend setter David Beckham out and about in a multi-pocketed pilot number. Another choice for this trend is the plain blazer, which effortlessly bridges the smart-casual divide when worn with a t-shirt and skinny scarf. You can even pin badges onto one lapel, which you may recall was the height of cool when you were about sixteen and still in high school – mod bands like Maximo Park, and TV star Russell Brand are to thank for bringing that one back onto the fashion radar. Wear with pointy Chelsea boots, classic wingtips or brogues.

A For a more casual look next spring, lightweight nylon jackets and hoodies covered with bold, geometric patterns, angular lines and checks will be hot stuff. These are slightly reminiscent of early 90s styles, and on the same note bright, neon orange and yellow details – like piping, zips, or shoe laces – should be massive too. Shiny, futuristic fabrics including silver and gold are starting to funk up jackets, shoes and more; but remember not to go too far with this trend. One silver accent in an otherwise conservative outfit will bring your look bang up to date; a silver jacket with silver shoes, white jeans and a metallic scarf will just make you look a bit like the singer from Babylon Zoo.

Alternatively, if you’re feeling indecisive and the dazzling variety of men’s winter jackets out there is just too much, you can never go wrong with a classic, structured wool overcoat. Double-breasted, army and navy-style pea coats are brilliant, flattering and very warm. Alternatively, there’s the timeless, tailored, single-breasted style which should be a staple in every man’s wardrobe. Don’t think of it as your dad’s wool coat, it’s channeling James Dean in that unforgettable portrait in Times Square in the rain.
