The Central Jersey Umpires Association seeks men and women who are certified umpires or interested in becoming certified umpires for baseball and softball. Prior knowledge of the game is necessary. Gymnasts representing Galaxy Gymnastics competed in the recent Wintertime in Brandywine meet, where the Level 4 and Level 6 teams finished in fourth place.

For the Level 4 team, Anna Pagliaro was fourth in the 6-7 age group all-around competition, and her teammate Alicia Klotz was ninth. Pagliaro’s best event was the floor exercise, where she placed fourth. Klotz was seventh on floor excercise.

Leanne Kelly and Brooke McNamara were seventh and eighth in the Level 4 ages 8-9 all-around. Kelly was third on floor exercise and McNamara was fourth on vault.

For the Level 6 girls, Taylor Cusick and Sarah Kowalski were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 11-year-old all-around. Cusick’s best event was the floor exercise, where she placed third, while Kowalski was second on uneven bars and balance beam.

Elizabeth Moore, Claudia Bellafiore, Molly Graun and Julia Roessler all had top 10 finishes for the Level 6 squad.

Vanessa Lambrou won the all-around competition in Level 5 (8-year-old division). She swept the individual event competition, winning the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. Violet Lambrou was second in the all-around and second on balance beam and floor exercise. In the 10-year-old division, Karissa Parze was ninth in the all-around and Nicole Wood placed fourth on floor exercise.

The Level 7 team was led by Jada Postadan, who won the floor exercise in the 11-year-old division and was seventh in the all-around. Hailey Streiby placed third on floor exercise.

Celine Rabo gave the Galaxy Gymnastics girls another all-around championship as she won the Level 8 age 13 division allaround. Her best event was the vault, where she was second. Alyssa Leitner competed in the 15-and-over division for Galaxy Gymnastics.

Kristyn Sheridan, Jennifer Fobes and Pam Borges coach the Galaxy Gymnastics teams. The facility is on Fairfield Road in Howell.

The Harlem Globetrotters have implemented basketball’s first four-point shot as part of the team’s 2011 “4 Times the Fun” North American tour, the team’s 85th season of touring.

During the Globetrotters’ 2011 North American tour, every game will now feature two designated four-point shooting spots on each side of mid-court, each spot being 35 feet from the basket (12 feet beyond the NBA’s three-point line).

Adult baseball players and teams are wanted for the Amateur Baseball Association of New Jersey, a recreational baseball league. Multiple wood bat and metal bat leagues of all skill levels (age 18 and over) will be offered. Fusion 13U baseball is seeking two or three high-caliber experienced travel players born between May 1, 1997 and April 30, 1998 to complete its roster. Catching and/or pitching experience preferred, but not required. Commitment required for 11-month program — spring, summer and fall ball and extensive tournament play beginning in March (20-plus weekends, in and out of state). Mustang (Marlboro) Youth Football will be offering its sixth year of Spring NFL Flag Football. The program is open to children between the ages of 4-14 as of March 1, 2011 (no high school students). this is non-contact flag football. Games will begin at the end of March and run until mid- to late-June. eight games are guaranteed. All games are played on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Marlboro turf field on Wyncrest Road.

Teams are grouped by age/grade and the league accepts full teams of up to 12 players. Players may request placement with one or more friends. The registration fee is $75 and each player receives an official NFL flag football jersey to keep.

The Freehold Borough little League will hold 2011 baseball registration on Jan. 20-21 from 7-9 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 62 W. Main Street, Freehold. The league is open to boys and girls ages 5-16 who are residents of Freehold Borough. Costs range from $60 to $115 per child. A $100 refundable work bond is also collected at registration. Central Jersey Travel Baseball League is taking registration from teams interested in playing in the 2011 spring season, beginning March 27 and concluding with the championship on June 19. Games are usually scheduled for Sundays. Divisions are divided by strength and geographical location, with divisions for select teams, town all-star teams and town B teams. Olympic decathlon champion Bryan Clay will headline the 2011 Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden, New York, on Jan. 28. Clay and 2009 world champion decathlete Trey Hardee will compete in a special three-event competition that includes the 60- meter hurdles, high jump and shot put. they will be challenged by Ashton Eaton, the world indoor heptathlon record holder, and Duke University’s Curtis Beach, the American high school record holder in the decathlon.
