Strathmore woman injured in fatal Fresno crash
A Strathmore woman who sustained minor injuries in a fatal Fresno crash involving five cars Thursday, was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to the CHP, at approximately 11 a.m. Wednesday, a 35-year-old Lemoore man was driving a 2003 Jeep Wrangler southbound on Highway 41 and started to pass other vehicles by driving in the northbound lane.
The man reportedly failed to pass with sufficient clearance and side-swiped a northbound 2003 Dodge Neon driven by Maria Grajeda, 48 of Avenal.
The Jeep continued southbound and crashed into a 2007 GMC 3500 being driven northbound by Sabrina Wheeler, 44 of Strathmore, and then into a northbound 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Zachary Struikman, 23 of Davis.
After the initial crash the Neon traveled in a northwesterly direction and collided with an unknown vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 41.
The unknown vehicle failed to stop and fled the scene prior to the CHP’s arrival.
The 35-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Struikman sustained minor injuries and was transported to Hanford Community Hospital for treatment.
Anyone with information about this crash or the hit and run driver is asked to contact the Fresno Area CHP office at 441-5441.
