Diane von Furstenberg on DVF in O.C.

April 24th, 2012

Diane von Furstenberg’s DVF boutique, the second of its kind in California, opened earlier this week at South Coast Plaza. the store, located on level 1 next to Dooney & Bourke in the Macy’s Men’s Store/Saks fifth Avenue wing, is exclusive to the shopping center in O.C. the other California store is in West Hollywood.

“We found a great space and the right opportunity and it is just a great place to be,” Von Furstenberg said. “I am so happy to have a presence there.”

The new store’s location at South Coast Plaza is in good company, given that some of its neighbors are high-end designer and luxury brands, including the newly remodeled DKNY store across from it and Herve Leger, Fendi and Ralph Lauren boutiques several doors away.

“DVF waited a long time for the right location,” said Debra Gunn Downing, executive director of marketing at South Coast Plaza. “We just didn’t have the space then. it was worth the wait in a way, because the synergy that we expect DVF will have with the other stores can be a model for success.”

Von Furstenberg established her business in the 1970s and soon after became known for her graphic floral prints and washable, easy-to-wear dresses. her iconic wrap dress, which she introduced in 1973, is now part of the Costume Institute collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. her company closed in the 1980s, but she relaunched it in 1997.

Last year, she hired Yvan Mispelaere, formerly of Valentino and Prada, to be head designer for her firm. Forbes named her one of the 100 most powerful women, also last year.

Von Furstenberg was quoted by the New York Times as having said at one time, “I am not interested in making children’s clothes. I want little girls to want to grow up to wear the clothes. I do not want to do men’s clothes. My mission in life, what I understand in life, is women. I wanted to be a certain kind of a woman. I became that kind of a woman.”

Some things clearly have changed for von Furstenberg. several weeks ago, her first capsule collection for girls, DVF for GapKids and babyGap, was launched with much fanfare, and is still available at Gap children’s stores at the Shops at Mission Viejo and South Coast Plaza. A fall/holiday collection for those Gap labels is expected later this year.

Here, my Q & A with von Furstenberg on her retail foray into Orange County:

Q. Are there any special things that will be unique to the Orange County store?

A. it will have a classic old Hollywood feel.

Q. In choosing the look of the store, what did you want to convey?

A. We always want the space to be like a gallery to display the art of the collection. So we use a lot of white and incorporate our signature prints and iconic elements like the twig.  We want the space, like the clothes, to make a woman feel like the best version of herself.

Q. your son, Alex, lives in Malibu and you spend time here in Southern California. how has that influenced your designs?

A. I love Southern California. My family has been there for a while…my daughter and my grandchildren are here, too. all of my travels influence my designs. I see prints and color everywhere and certainly California is beautiful and an inspiring place to be.

Q. do you think there are differences in the way California women buy and wear your designs compared to the way women in New York do?

A. I don’t have to teach California women about effortless chic…they totally get it. And California women are so relaxed…but still glamorous. they are not afraid of color.

Q. how about the differences between how Los Angeles women and Orange County women wear Diane von Furstenberg?

A. Well, for one, (Orange County women) have a beautiful backdrop. And I think they have that sporty edge.

Q. There are now generations of women in families wearing Diane von Furstenberg. What have you found to be their favorites from your collections and how do they wear them?

A. I think women of all ages gravitate to the dresses because they make them feel confident and beautiful. it has never been about age. it is about being comfortable, being able to move. Women love the wrap dress and a young girl may wear it with chic, heeled booties or combat boots and I love to see that, while a woman in her 30s who is getting more serious in her career might wear it with a high heel and then go straight to cocktails. it is effortless and I think all women want that. And with Yvan (Mispelaere) and what he is able to do with cut and details, women are coming to use for more elevated pieces, like tailored jackets and timeless handbags.

Q. if customers were to buy three things in your Orange County store for summer, what would you suggest?

A. Our Current/Elliott stuff is also really hot right now and perfect for California. Super chic printed denim. I have been living in mine. I also love our Mini Harper Bags in the bright neon colors and I just got these leopard Jamila thong sandals before my trip to India. they are a must.

British Coins

If you’re in the market to buy gold coins there is no better time than the present. the price of gold and silver is on the rise and precious metals’ investing is on the minds of everyone seeking to strengthen their portfolio and increase their financial security during these troubled times. (A strong portfolio should contain at least 10-20% coins and bullion, according to industry experts.)

British coins are very popular among investors and collectors alike; the Sovereign coin, in particular. This coin was introduced in the 19th century as currency in London and shortly after it was being circulated in 5 continents as every day currency.

The popularity of this coin was due to the fact that it was made with 23 carat gold. This was soon changed by Henry VIII to 22 carat, which is now the standard. It was reduced to 22 carat so it could be made with a slight bit of copper to increase its strength and durability. It was known as “crown gold” and consisted of 11/12 gold and 1/12 copper. This method was changed one time with the minting of the Australian Sovereign and included an extra 1 1/4% of silver so Queen Victoria was able to be crafted in better detail. the beauty of the coin was, and still is, unmatched in many collectors’ minds.

British Sovereign coins are a sound investment as they are typically sold as collector’s items but can be purchased for not much more than their bullion price. these coins were produced in high quantity’s when they were first introduced which also makes them fairly easy to find. Regardless, they remain a favorite amongst investors and collectors.

These British coins are considered to be one of the most versatile coins on the market. They hold their bullion price due to their high amount of pure gold, they are one of the most collectible of coins due to their beauty and craftsmanship and they are usable currency in almost every country in the world.

Gold is the past, present and future. It has and remains to be one of the safest investments on the market. People strive to have precious metals in their portfolios due to the fact that they are a physical commodity. Prices can fall, but with the past performance results in this market, it is not likely. Experts are saying the exact opposite, in fact. Leading industry experts expect gold prices to reach over $1,200 per ounce by years end. British coins are a thriving member of this category and have withheld the test of time. Remember to consult only with qualified and reputable gold dealers that have a history of excellent service and success.

SLt Carrie Dolan HMCS Whitehorse

Members of HMCS Whitehorse hang out with the Can Can Girls of the Sourdough Review.

As a first-timer to any of the three Territories, my arrival to Whitehorse was met with great fulfilment. Gliding over the picturesque Coastal Mountains in the Dash 8 was an experience I’ll always remember. it was a sunny Wednesday morning in late February with temperatures at a comfortable -14 C. I, and more than 250 other Canadian Forces members, had made the trek north for the annual Sourdough Rendezvous Festival. my role was to represent the Maritime Coastal Defence Vessel HMCS Whitehorse. my visit began with the Civic dinner at the Yukon Inn. it was an evening to showcase those who help support the festival. Guests of honour included Whitehorse Mayor Bev Buckway; Commissioner of the Yukon, the Honourable Douglas Phillips; and a few Canadian Forces members from Joint Task Force North, including Major Bob Saunders, who is the Detachment Commanding Officer. as a representative from the ship, I took the opportunity to present the City of Whitehorse with the Royal Canadian Mint dollar coin, which recognized the 100-year history of the Canadian Navy. it is a commemorative circulation coin to honour the men and women who served and continue to serve in Canada’s naval service. The festival includes longstanding traditional, yet unusual, activities such as chainsaw chucking, wife-carrying, and the flour carrying competition, in which contestants strap a large metal frame stacked with bags of flour to their backs. The Queen’s Candidate portion of the festival involves a month-long indoctrination into proper “Lady” etiquette. The ladies are willingly put in the public eye before the festival in hopes of being chosen as the new miss Sourdough Rendezvous. What is a Sourdough? in a place like Whitehorse, where surviving the winter is not easy, the locals have come up with a term to distinguish the tough from the not so tough. Basically, once you stay the whole winter season, from freeze to thaw, then you are considered a true “Sourdough.” if you’re just visiting or continuously seek out warmer climates during the winter months then you’re classified a “Cheechko.” Although many of the events were at locations around the city, the festival itself took place mainly at Shipyards Park. there was a traditional maple syrup shack, a gyro booth that had a continuous line up of naval personnel, and lots of other local fare. One event worth braving the weather for was the corporate challenge that took place on Saturday afternoon. Participants in the challenge included the army and their Joint Task Force North team; a group of cheery francophones known as the French Toast team; and the navy with their team of sailors from HMCS Whitehorse. The challenge involved four events: a bed push around the pond, a tricycle push, a tug-o-war, and a multi-person 2×4 walking event that you’d have to see in action to really appreciate. The teams all brought their game faces and it was definitely something that helped get the blood flowing again. I was happy that despite a deplorable effort on the 2×4 event the navy was still able to successfully defend their best overall time title. The festival wound up with a parade and the Naden Band got one last opportunity to march everyone out. Even though the wind chill was a brisk -35 degrees Celcius, participants and onlookers were not deterred. It’s true that no namesake visit is complete without a stopover at the Legion, and we sure did enjoy the great hospitality at the new #254 location. LCdr Angus Fedoruk, the Commanding Officer of HMCS Whitehorse, presented Legion member Darcy Grossinger with a ship’s badge and two photos of the ship. We even got the chance to sample ‘solstice’, a much revered local spirit that does a great job of keeping out the cold.

The 30-paise opera

March 16th, 2011

the ministry of finance sought the Reserve Bank of India’s views on this suggestion. Responding to the ministry’s letter in November 1973, the central bank said the proposal bristled with two incongruities. “First, it would be a misfit in the decimal series, adding to the multiple denominations already in circulation; and second, no other country had till then introduced an odd denomination,” said the bank. It further added that the coin was likely to become redundant if telephone call charges were raised.

RBI had also argued that if the 30-paise coin was to be introduced, the new coin should ideally weigh approximately 6.9 grams, to enable the telephone machine to accept it. but that was not practical because the cupro-nickel 25-paise and 50-paise coins weighed 2.5 grams and 5 grams respectively, and the cupro-nickel 30-paise coin weighing 6.9 grams would have been out of sync in the coin-system. but then a 30-paise coin having a weight anything between 2.5 grams and 5 grams would have necessitated for a recalibration of the coin-collecting boxes.

Rare Old Coins – Value and Price

March 10th, 2011

Coin prices are determined by value, the out there quantity and their popularity. the ones that normally have a higher value and price are those which are hard to find or are in limited quantity. when there will be a need for limited coins, the coin prices will escalate due to the supply and need logic. if there will be a limited provide, then the prices can be subject to what the buyer will be willing to pay. when readily on the market, the prices are usually lower and the price value can be determined on conditions or circulation.

Grading affects the marketing cost as well. Grading can be a signifies of determining the value of the coin founded on condition, rarity, demand, and other factors that will impact the total value of the coin.

Age is actually not always an indication of the high valued coin. some truly old ones may not fetch as a great deal as the a lot more recent ones if they are in extremely poor condition. Collectors vary as a great deal as coins themselves. Many coin collectors will seek out rare coins which have unique markings, mint flaws, and other oddities around the coins. Prices may and perform drop and improve depending on its popularity and demand. Speculating investors will purchase coins which they hope will escalate in value more than time.

Values are not determined by mere appearance . there are guidelines which estimate value. Guidelines are crucial in order to accommodate the numerous collectors from all more than the world and this particular helps to also determine coin values. the two best factors utilized to determine coin values are popularity and grade.

Popularity is the foremost consideration for determining coin values. High in-demand coins impact the price or value and will normally drive up the cost. These in-demand coins fetch a high profit if they determine to sell. Nevertheless when the popularity of the coin dissipates thus does the value and cost.

The top quality of the old coins affects the value. if an old coin’s mint date is actually still visible, this particular is actually critical to its value. Age is extremely important when it comes to value. on the other hand, the overall condition of the old coins also affects the coin’s value and selling price.

If you have or program to produce collecting a business, then by all usually means speak to existing coin collectors to know how to receive started. all coins are not produced equal nor are their collectability. the art of collecting is fun and may be profitable, however be careful not to over-estimate the given coins value for a long-term investment. Prices and values do change considerably and you could lose as much as you could acquire.this coin guide can be a good information to you if you want to start it as a hobby or as a business.

Danvers pawn shop may have violated town bylaw

February 26th, 2011

Danvers Coin, Jewlery and Estate Buyers is currently under investigation for potential violations of town bylaws regarding the “sale of junk and second hand articles” for not keeping exchange documents on site.

Located at 42 Maple St., the store specializes in the purchase and sale of jewelry, coins, currency, records and other obscurities. the business owner was brought before the Board of Selectmen Tuesday night, Feb. 8, to give insight to the allegations, as Police Chief Neil Oullette gave his report to the board.

On Nov. 22, 2010, Detective Robert Sullivan performed a routine check on the pawn shop and witnessed a young man exchange several items. following the observation, Sullivan identified himself to the owner and requested to view the exchange records. Stephen Spleen Eck, the business owner, was unable to produce such documents at the time, stating that the files might have been at his residence.

Sullivan reported that Eck assured him that he would keep all exchange documents on site in the future. Shortly after, Sullivan heard chatter amongst several local youths about having a tab at the business.

a second visit was made to the establishment on Dec. 29, 2010, at which time Eck was still unable to furnish records. Oullette explained that it is imperative that police be able to view such records, as the number of home break-ins has been steadily increasing. without exchange records, the police are unable to trace stolen items. Oullette also stated that it is a requirement of the town bylaws that pawn shop owners have transaction records on site and available for police investigation.

“I can see no reason why this particular business was not in compliance,” said Selectman bill Clark. “you should at least be abiding by the minimum laws set forth, and if you aren’t, then you shouldn’t be in business in this town.”

Eck maintained that the incidents were merely misunderstandings, as he believed that he had been in compliance since his business opened.

“There was a miscommunication. I thought that I could keep the items off-site for security reasons,” Eck said. “I said [to Sullivan] that I would be happy to have them the next day.”

Eck futher explained that it was not his intention to violate any bylaws, and that he was merely trying to be safe. He also told the board that he uses scanners to keep records of the items coming in and that he has an information form all sellers are required to sign. the form includes key identifying information and also states that the seller did not steal the items, which protects Eck should a problem arise. Oullette also stated in his report that there did not appear to be any stolen items on the premises.

Adressing the issue of youths carrying a tab at the shop, Eck explained that this occurred once and was a sale from Eck to a customer. He stated that had there been a sale to the business, there would have been paperwork involved.

Eck asserted that since the incidents, he has kept all logs in a folder on the premises. He has also submitted byweekly electronic excel spreadsheets to the police department for review.

“I’m not here to make money off of people’s misery,” Eck said.

Board of Selectmen Chairman Mike Powers requested that the board follow the Oullete’s recommendations and send a letter to Eck regarding the potential violations of the bylaw in order to have the incident on record.

“this relates to public safety and crime, so I would suggest that the business be aware that compliance checks will happen,” said Selecteman Gardner Trask. “There are issues that have been noted and we hope that they will be rectified.”

Options: Markets– The things people do

February 24th, 2011

We’ve all been encouraged at one point or the other to take up some kind of hobby. Before we could determine our true passion pursuits, as children, we often started with mainstream hobbies such as collecting stamps or coins. as we grew up, some of us did maintain our love for rare stamps and coins while the rest of us moved on to jazz recordings, comic books, shot glasses, even art. the more affluent of course began their extensive collection of sports or vintage cars, wines, rare books and jewellery.

I recently heard about a community of folks worldwide who collect and trade Hard Rock Caf? pins. For most of us, a pin ranks low in terms of souvenirs, just a step above magnets. but guess what? some special edition pins, from certain cities, can fetch about US$2,000 today.

Some hobbyists can get pretty weird and quirky with their collections. There’s a Phil Miller in the US who is a sucrologist, someone who collects sugar packets and sugar cube wrappers. He’s been collecting since 1978 and you can view his collection at the.millerfamily.name/sugar/. It’s not as lucrative as Hard Rock Caf? pins, but hey, it’s a sweet hobby. There’s also the eccentric Barney Smith, an artist in Texas who collects old toilet seats and uses them as his canvas for some very interesting artwork. over the past 30 years, he has created more than 700 artistically decorated toilet seat lids. Check if I’m bluffing at unusualmuseums.org/toilet/.

Joseph W Lauher has made handcuffs his passion. I’m not quite sure what drives his interest, but it may be due to an obsession about law enforcement or an unusual passion for discipline, or it may just be 100% kink. He has the largest collection of handcuffs, maybe in the world I’m not sure how many there are out there like Lauher. the collection is made up of mainly vintage or historical handcuffs, complemented with an array of leg irons, nippers (a handcuff that lock only one hand but has a handle to keep the cuffed person under control) and thumbcuffs.

There’s also a man who collects lint from his navel, but this is about as much press as I’m going to give him. gross.

Weird and quirky can be forgivable when it has charm and intellect to back it up. the late publishing tycoon Malcolm Forbes was a famous quirky collector. He collected everything from hot air balloons to historical documents. He even had a collection of Faberg? eggs and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. but none of these collections were as extensive as his collection of toys. He used to trawl attics, antique shops and salesrooms in search of battalions of lead soldiers, squadrons of model aircraft and flotillas of miniature ships. Mint condition or old and worn, he embraced them all, and as the collection grew, Forbes had it displayed on the first floor of the Forbes building on New York’s fifth Avenue. last year, Sotheby’s managed the sale of a part of Forbes’ legendary collection for a cool US$2.3 million. This figure did indeed prove that toys can be for big boys too, and is a lucrative passion.

In fact 2010 was a good year for antique toys. Bertoia Auctions’ Toys for the Mantle sale in November fetched US$1.6 million for its lots of antique toys, including a circa-1909 Maerklin tinplate steam-powered boat known as Priscilla which sold for US$63,250 against an estimate of US$35,000 to US$45,000. (German toymaker Maerklin was one of the top toy manufacturers at the turn of the 20th century, famous for its colourful tin train stations and miniature replicas of actual buildings in Europe.)

This year, another major toy sale is set to happen in February. A collection called the Jerni Collection, comprising more than 27,000 toys made between 1850 and 1940, half of which were produced by Maerklin, is up for auction as a single lot. Sotheby’s expects to net around US$10 million from the sale but industry experts predict a much higher value. Renowned appraiser Noel Barret believes the the collection could very well earn US$40 million to US$50 million.

The collection is owned by Jerry Greene, a 67-year-old music executive who collected them because I think they are beautiful. They survived both world wars. For me, it’s part of history, he told Bloomberg.

When asked why he’s selling now, he answered simply: I collected everything I could collect. the fun is in the search. I want to sell it, so that I have a clean basement. After this, I will collect something else.

So what are you collecting these days? What’s your unexpected passion?

Splurge of the week

The Faberg? Le Carnet de Bal collection of white diamond jewellery celebrates the scintillating banquets and balls that were such a vital and vibrant feature of St Petersburg society and Faberg?’s world in the early 20th century. Part of the protocol and tradition of great balls, Le Carnet de Bal was a dance card, an often elaborate, booklet, with ivory pages, sometimes encased in silver, on which ladies would write the names of partners for particular dances. Designed for day into evening wear, each Le Carnet de Bal jewel can be worn on its own, complemented by other designs in the collection, or mixed with personal, much-loved treasures. Pictured is the Mazurka bangle a wide openwork cuff designed as a light and lively, asymmetric composition of entwined diamond ribbons. Available via Faberge.com.

As Malaysian women decide which new colour palette to adopt from the upcoming spring/summer offerings, young ladies at universities in Iran will only have black, grey and other muted tones to choose from. A number of its universities are enforcing a stricter Islamic dress code including a ban on female students wearing long nails, bright clothes and tattoos, reports Reuters. the new rules also ban women from wearing caps or hats without scarves, tight and short jeans, and body piercing. Meanwhile, male students are prohibited from dying their hair, plucking eyebrows, wearing tight clothes, jewellery and shirts with very short sleeves.

This crackdown on immoral behaviour is in line with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s promise of returning to the values of the 1979 revolution where women started to have to cover their hair in public and wear long, loose-fitting clothes when he took office in 2005.

Baby, you can drive my car

It was a cold day in February 1865 when news got around in Surrey, England, that Beatle John Lennon had earned his driver’s licence. soon, there was a traffic jam of luxury cars sent by local dealerships to Lennon’s Weybridge home, one of which was a light blue Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Coupe. According to Philip Norman’s biography, John Lennon: the Life, the legendary singer/songwriter strolled through his security gates, inspected the fleet of British and Italian sports cars, and eventually plumped for the Ferrari, priced at ?2,000 pounds.

This Ferrari, extensively restored in the 1990s, is set to fetch as much as 170,000 through a sale on? Feb 5 via British auction house Bonhams in Paris. What’s interesting to observe when the auction comes through will be the power of celebrity provenance if the price achieved at the sale meets or surpasses expectations as the 1965 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 is the least-loved of the Italian carmaker’s vintage models.

Lennon is also better known for the Rolls Royce Phantom V limo he bought shortly after the Ferrari, repainted in psychedelic livery. That was sold in June 1985 at auction for US$2.3 million, which was a record at that time for an item of pop memorabilia.

Make a Smart Investment in Palladium Coins

February 2nd, 2011

Financial professionals around the world agree that in these most dire economic times, there are only a handful of ways for investors to find a way to see the results of an investment. Investors deciding to buy precious metals in the form of coins or bars has been progressively gaining in popularity since the recession began. Because of their intrinsic value and liquidity, gold and silver have always been known to hold or gain in value even in the midst of a weak stock market.

The Palladium coin is one of the most popular options for investors looking to get started in coin collecting for profit. these coins are made of the rare silver transition palladium metal. several countries around the world produce these coins, generally as a special, commemorative piece and not to be inserted into the consumer marketplace.

The very first palladium coins were produced by Sierra Leone back in 1966, followed by Tonga in 1967. After that, several countries followed suit in creating special palladium coins for investors, including the United States, Canada, China, France and many others. the 2005 Canadian Maple Leaf palladium coin is the most modern palladium coin, and a very popular option. Russia has minted the highest number of collectible palladium coins of any other country.

Although there are many different ways for investors to enjoy the benefits of buying gold and silver, many economic professionals agree that having the actual physical metal in your possession is the key to seeing a return on your investment. Collectible and rare coins are a wonderful investment not only because of their currency value, but also for the intrinsic value of the precious metals they are made from.

How you decide to purchase precious metals for investment purposes is very important. To assure that you are receiving an honest to goodness product, it’s vitally important for investors to educate themselves in the gold, silver and palladium markets to assure that they are buying exactly what they think they are buying. It’s common for beginning investors to make mistakes by not knowing enough about the current prices of gold and silver, so the more knowledge you are equipped with, the more likely you will be to see a positive result of your investments.

As an investor in this difficult financial time, being able to put your money towards something with real value is very important, and palladium coins and other collectible coins offer investors an honest option for investment return.

Whatever your reason is, money pots are more than just piggy bands or coin pots, so to speak. They are also decorative because they are hand made in Italy and hand painted in London. If you want to know more about these money pots, read the following paragraphs.

  • Italians have been using these money pots for about 2000 years, which made them one of the oldest money pots in Italy. Some of these ancient pots are even displayed in the British Museum, which only shows how important they are in Europe’s history and culture.
  • There is a tradition accompanying the use of these money pots. once you drop a coin into it, you have to continuously do so until the pot is full. When it is full, you can now open the pot by inserting a chisel into the slot to pry the lid open. it was said that you should spend the money that you have saved only on good things if you want to receive good luck or fortune.
  • Once the lid of the money pot has been removed and the coins have been taken out, you can use the jar or pot for other things. it can hold pencils or pens, candles, plants, and other knick knacks.
  • You can also give these great money pots to your family and friends as Christmas, New Year, birthday, or anniversary gifts.

Value Of Gold Coins

January 3rd, 2011

Finding out the value of gold coins is not easy sometimes, there are many factors to consider

The rarity of the coin

The value will go up if that coin is rare and hard to find.

How much that coin is in demand

Big demand will increase the price of the coin of course. Assuming you own a hard to find coin, in that case the price will probably be high and generate a major return on investment. Rare coins tend to be difficult to find and have a minimal availability, however, coins that have a higher level of mintage may not have a high value, for example, assuming a person own the common year issue, $20 Saint Gaudens coin, the worth may not necessarily end up being considerably greater compared to the melt worth of the gold located within it.

Vintage grade

Gold coins are a better investment comparing to bullion coins, because they possess the extra numismatic worth tied to them. Bullion is usually a lot more on the market than numismatic high quality coins. This is what maintains their premiums more than the actual zone price.

For a coin to obtain considerable vintage worth, its condition need to be of the top high quality. obviously, there are usually certain exceptions. having said that, the standard guideline is that the greater condition the particular coin is in, the higher the probability of reaching a better numismatic value. Coins which have never got into normal circulation will own a better price compared to all those that did. Uncirculated coins come out in a perfect condition, just like when they had been minted.

There is a lot more to consider when grading a coin, beside rarity and condition, the actual quality of the coin is definitely the most difficult element of figuring out the actual value. the design and style of the coin could also play a role in this. Certain designs appear better than others. Generally when the level of quality is great, more people would like it.

Popularity is yet another factor to consider

If you are trying to determine the true worth for gold coins. well known coins sell rapidly. Let’s take an example the Indian head of $10. That coin is well known and always in demand which make it higher than average in price. in the contrary when the coin is rare, this doesn’t indicate that the price is higher. Good examples regarding rare coins which do not possess big values are half dimes. Although appear lovely, they don’t preserve value well.

Whenever you carry most of the variables into consideration, you’ll have the ability to come up with the actual value of the coin.

A marble bust has sold for an astonishing $US23.8 million ($24.2 million) at a Sotheby’s auction in new York, soaring to nearly 10 times its pre-sale estimate.

Marble Portrait Bust Of the Deified Antinous, Roman Imperial, Reign Of Hadrian – circa AD 130-138 – fetched $US23,826,500, including commission.

Five bidders competed for the bust, the only known classical representation of Antinous bearing an identifying inscription, apart from coins.

The buyer was an unidentified European collector.

The bust led an auction of antiquities from the collection of the late Clarence Day, who maintained one of the nation’s finest such collections, according to Sotheby’s.

The sale totalled more than $US36.7 million.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit a charitable foundation established by Day – a philanthropist and collector whose beneficiaries included the Mayo Clinic, the Scouts, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and several other Memphis charitable or arts organisations.
