Chaparral Motorsports Offers Full Line of Gas-Saving Motorcycles and Scooters for Commuters

May 30th, 2011

San Bernardino, CA (PRWEB) May 23, 2011

Gas prices have risen dramatically in recent months, and with no end in sight, many commuters are looking for new ways to get to work without having to pay through the nose for fuel. at Chaparral Motorsports, these people can find a wide array of safe and cost-effective motorcycle and scooter options that won’t leave their wallets empty.

According to the 2011 edition of the “Your Driving Costs” report issued earlier this year by AAA, the average cost per mile that a vehicle is driven ranges from 38.1 cents for a small sedan that runs 20,000 miles per year to 96.4 cents for a large sedan that covers just 10,000 on an annual basis. making matters even more serious, these figures were calculated using the price of gas in late 2010, when a gallon of fuel cost just $2.88 per gallon. These days, the average price of a gallon of gas has flirted with the $4 benchmark, indicating that the cost-per-mile number can only go up from AAA’s estimates.

“Rising gas prices send drivers searching for more economical transportation,” said Crystal Ashby, the vice president of marketing at San Bernardino, California outlet Chaparral Motorsports. “Scooters and motorcycles can relieve the pinch on your pocketbook.”

Combining a low manufacturer’s suggested retail price with a strong fuel economy, Chaparral’s most economical option is the Honda Metropolitan. this vehicle starts from just $2,049 and earns a whopping 114 miles per gallon (mpg) of gas – even more than acclaimed (and expensive) electric cars like the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt. The Honda PCX Scooter, which has a starting price of $3,399, has a similar fuel economy rating, coming in at 110 mpg.

Other motorcycles and scooters that can save drivers from taking a hit at the pump include the Honda CBR250R Sportbike, which gets 77 mpg and costs $3,999; the 83-mpg, $5,399 Honda CRF230M Dual Purpose Motorcycle; and the Honda Shadow Spirit 750 Cruiser, which starts from $6,999 and earns a fuel efficiency rating of 56 mpg.

Wiggins concert features kindergarten classics

April 7th, 2011

A couple of fourth-graders narrated the Wiggins kindergarten performance recently, telling the audience how music students learn in class.

The concert called “Kingergarten Classics” included such standards as “The Bus,” “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” “Hickory Dickory Dock,” “Hey Diddle, Diddle,” “Five Little Frogs,” “Six Little Ducks,” “Shoo Fly,” “Mister Sun,” “Skinnamarink” and “Bingo.”

The children also did finger plays to the tunes of “Open, Shut them,” “Two Little Blackbirds,” “Poppin’ Popcorn” and “The Apple Tree,” as wells as dances to the “Hokey Pokey,” the “Chicken Dance” and “Looby Loo.”

“Bye ‘m Bye” was the finale.

Music director Sue Kammerzell said the performance was greatly enhanced by Cady Longcor and Abby Kopetzky, fourth-graders who read all of the speaking parts for the concert.

Longcor and Kopetzky read about how music is an important part of childhood, offering both entertainment and part of society’s heritage.

Music can help children learn information about historical events, geography and other cultures, as well as strengthen reading, math and memorization skills, they said.

Longcor and Kopetzky also talked about the history and origin of the classic songs the kindergartners sang.

Young children enjoy the often funny and silly songs which feature nursery rhymes, which began showing up in England in 1765, they said.

Counting songs like “Five Little Frogs” help kids to learn their numbers and to subtract, Kopetzky and Longcor said.

“Shoo, Fly” was the favorite dance song of President Abraham Lincoln, the fourth-graders said.

A study was done in 2003 to see how many music students could sing the old classic tunes, and it was discovered that many children today are not being exposed to these great, old melodies, Kopetzky and Longcor said.

Children singing and dancing in the concert included Shilyn Barnum, Blake Bower, Avery Burdette, Marcos Cardova, Latzari Escalante, Benecio Gonzales, Laith Ibrahim, Justin Kurtz, Kelli Lousberg, Jayden Luna, Talyn Mese, Ethan Opatik, Angus Rodriguez, Omelia Sandoval, Shayla Sierra, Cole Simon, Kelsi Smits, Madison Thomas, Peyton Allart, Gabriel Dodge, Madison Dreier, Lexi Ewertz, Adalia Garcia, Matthew Geisick, Cole Kerr, Joshua Kurtz, Cuauhtemoc Mendez, Gracie Mook, Danielle Moon, Leonardo Munoz-Mendoza, Hayden Nance, Omar Perez-Celis, Garrett Pruett, Jaime Ramirez-Cardona, Elizabeth Reorda and Madison Stanley.

Joyce Tackabury played piano accompaniment.

Sara Kopetzky, Lori Pruett and Shawna Longcor served as program assistants helping the kids during the performance.

Leighann Hansen, Wendy Collier and Barb Kaufman worked as program assistants and helped during rehearsals.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Bicolore 2011

April 4th, 2011

Just a month before the world debut of its V12 replacement for the Murciélago at 2011 Geneva Motor show, Automobili Lamborghini has presented at the 2011 Qatar Motor show a highly exclusive and appealing vehicle making its world premiere: the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Bicolore, a Special Edition supersports car which will be produced for the European and Asian-Pacific markets, while for the American market it will be only available in the version LP550-2. As its name implies, this special series features an exclusive two-tone finish with matching interior, and offers a full range of standard equipment. a refined contrast between the black roof and the color of the rest of the body (available in a choice of five shades) further emphasizes the sharp, dynamic lines of the Gallardo LP560-4, while simultaneously enhancing its sportiness and adding a touch of elegance to an extremely prestigious model in the field of automotive design.

The most successful super sports car in Lamborghini’s history captures the imagination with the brutal power of its 560 hp V10 engine, the absolute grip of its permanent all-wheel drive and the razor-sharp precision of its chassis. Every kilometer in the Lamborghini Gallardo is an intense experience of explosive dynamics and absolute control. Its breathtaking performance is indicated by the 3.7 seconds it takes to reach 100 km/h and its top speed of 325 km/h.

“With the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Bicolore, Lamborghini demonstrates once again the extreme, uncompromising and unmistakably Italian nature of our brand. The super sports cars from Lamborghini combine volcanic energy with design that is as unique as it is stylish,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.

The success of Lamborghini’s unequalled design DNA lies in the beauty of highly-concentrated power and precise function. The Gallardo is the sheer essence of form with a purist approach, so the body shell is crisply sculpted and completely free from decoration. a timeless piece of design and an uncompromising driving machine – the Lamborghini Gallardo is both.

Even more extreme, thanks to a personalized appearance

With its new Bicolore model, Lamborghini is now setting a further design highlight in the ten-cylinder model series. The colored exterior finish matched with the black on the upper area of the body gives the Gallardo a new, more aggressive personality that looks even wider, even more extreme and innately adhered to the road.

From the window-line upwards (including pillars, roof, engine hood and rear spoiler), the vehicle is decorated in Noctis Black – a pastel black that contrasts perfectly with the lower area of the body, available in a choice of five colors: Giallo Midas, Arancio Borealis, Grigio Telesto, Bianco Monocerus and Blu Caelum.

The exterior appearance is enhanced by Skorpius aluminum-alloy rims with 15 thin spokes that are forged to minimize unsprung weight and are finished in titanium gray enamel. And, the air intakes and front spoiler have a high-gloss black finish, as does the upper section of the rear diffuser.

Top-quality and highly individual interior

The contrast between black and color is repeated in an understated, elegant manner in the interior of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Bicolore. The instrument panel, seats, door panels and other elements in the passenger compartment are upholstered in the finest “Nero Persus” leather, with a refined contrast provided by precise stitching that is colored to match the exterior paintwork: yellow, orange, blue and gray (also used on the Bianco Monocerus version).

The bezel of the e-gear transmission on the center console is in Nero Noctis, just like the upper area of the vehicle. Obviously, the interior is finished in the Lamborghini tradition using only the materials of the very highest quality, which are crafted with undisputed professionalism and fine Italian workmanship.

V10 like a work of art in a glass display

The complete range of standard equipment includes the fast e-gear automated transmission controlled by paddles on the steering column. a lifting system enables the front axle to be raised for safer travel onto ramps and over humps in the road, and the engine hood in tempered glass provides a stunning view of the heart of the vehicle: a 5.2 liter, 90° V-10 engine with stratified direct injection.

From a satellite navigation system to a rear-view camera, from a brake system with carbon-ceramic discs to heated power seats, a long list of optional equipment and accessories allows the vehicle to be adapted to the personal requirements of any client.

Unique success for a super sports car

Well over 10,000 Gallardos have left the production facility at company headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese – a unique success story in the world of super sports cars. The Bicolore Special Edition is particularly intended for the enthusiast who desires a supercar with an exclusive appearance and remarkable design. in any event, he or she will own a Lamborghini that is altogether distinguished by an extremely dynamic character, maximum driving excitement, yet an ability to be driven daily.

Individual characters in one model range

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Bicolore completes Lamborghini’s ten-cylinder model range, which is enjoying enormous resonance worldwide with its broad spectrum of individual characters. while the Gallardo LP560-4 is already a highly trained, extreme athlete, the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera takes the notion of thoroughbred high performance even further. Thanks to its extensive experience in carbon-fiber lightweight engineering, Lamborghini succeeded in reducing its weight by a further 70 kilograms. At 2.35 kilograms per hp, the power-to-weight ratio of the Superleggera is the best in its class, with breathtaking performance guaranteed.

The Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder, on the other hand, offers a very different kind of extreme driving pleasure – every trip with the roof down is a journey with a hurricane, yet with maximum protection. this can only be bettered – in true Lamborghini style – by the Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante. Its purist carbon-fiber lightweight engineering, according to Lamborghini’s tradition, adds an even sharper edge to the dynamics.

Anderson Cooper 360: Blog Archive – Letters to the President: #790 'In for the short or long run' « – CNN.com Blogs

March 21st, 2011

Tom Foreman | BIOAC360° Correspondent

Reporter's Note: With American help, the U.N.-sanctioned attacks on Libya have begun.

Dear mr. President,

I can imagine nothing more difficult for any American president than making the decision to go to war – whether for a few days or for much longer. and of course, that is part of the challenge. It is hard to know once shooting begins just when and where it will end and, amid this new fighting in Libya, that is on my mind.

If we had some way of putting a stopwatch on these matters, I'm sure it would be easier to choose our course of action. I suppose if President George W. Bush knew precisely how Iraq would turn out, perhaps his ideas about that war would have been different. I'm not saying he would not have invaded, but maybe things would have played out in another way. (And I should note, as I often do, we still don't have any guarantees about the future there.)As a result, I think the decision to enter war must consider two timelines – the one for which you hope and the one your fear you might get. the decision to engage must be one that holds up in each instance. if you get the quick, decisive action you are intending, you can consider it the result of good planning and great skill; and you can take the credit. if you get something else, however, I think a president must be equally ready to embrace the changed circumstances and dig in for the long haul, whatever that may mean…even if it means bailing out and taking the political heat for a bad decision in the first place.

In any event, I wish the very best for all of our troops around the world in any and all conflicts.

I'm sure you are too busy to call today, so don't be distracted.

Peak Oil = Persistent, Unsolvable, Wrenching Stagflation

March 18th, 2011

America is addicted to oil.  we deem it a constitutional right to drive Hummers and have $4 a gallon gasoline.  but there is an Achille’s heel  to our lifestyle—oil is a finite resource, and one day we will run out of cheap oil.

The story of peak oil Let’s say that you live in new York and you make $80,000 a year.Life is good, it isn’t great, but at least you are making $80k.So how is it that you make $80k?is it because you are skilled and worth it?Sure, you are, but is there something supporting your salary?Indeed if you were worth $80k but there were no currency to pay you, you couldn’t collect your $80k.are there aspects of the economy supporting your income?

Let’s examine your news stand that you visit every day.  Joe, the news stand owner, makes $40k a year.  He makes an unlivable wage in new York, but he and his girl friend get by each having jobs.  Joe drives 10 miles to work every day.

On your way to work you reminisce of the good times as you fuel up.“Geeze, I remember when gas was $4 a gallon.”

You stop by the news stand and see Joe boarding it up.<“Joe, what happened?you were doing great business here!” “Yeah, I am.but fuel is too expensive, and the misses and I can’t make it in new York anymore.we are moving somewhere cheaper.”you, now at a loss of information, must also drive 2 additional miles to get your news.Dang, news has become less available, and more costly.

The economics of peak oil The stagflation of the 1970’s was caused by a combination of a decrease in the aggregate supply curve and loose monetary policy. As policy makers tried to stimulate the economy, what they didn’t realize was that the oil embargo had shifted the aggregate supply curve to the left.  he economic issue wasn’t a lack of demand; it was a lack of supply.

We are addicted to oil, and it is ubiquitous throughout the economy. And as we begin to run out, like in the 1970’s, the aggregate supply curve in the economy will begin to shift left.but unlike the 1970’s, it won’t be an episode of lack-of-oil, it will be a trend.

So how is it that the end of cheap oil will equate to stagflation?well, cheap oil drives the aggregate supply curve. As supply decreases, price increases, and economic output decreases.Cheap oil equates to stagflation via fundamental arguments of economics.

The challenges of peak oilWe will get to a precipice where we realize “oh crap, we are at peak oil.”Car makers and industries in the economy will adapt and search for more fuel-efficient alternatives.but do you know what the challenge will be?everyone will be demanding these alternatives, and the decrease in the supply of oil will lead to an increase in the demand in these alternatives. The lack of cheap oil leads to inflation even in these alternatives.

Things also will move “slower”.that hybrid you now drive, can’t go 0-60 in 5.8 seconds. It can’t go 0-60 ever; the speedometer only goes to 55!on the macro scale, “slower” equates to fewer jobs and a stagnate economy. The end of cheap oil has delivered you both higher prices and a stagnate economy.you are at jeopardy of losing your job because the economic activity experienced under cheap oil is now diminished and is not coming back for at least a decade until the economy adapts to the loss of cheap oil.

The fundamental questions of cheap oilWe will run out of cheap oil—we know that and it is a indefensible to take the contrary position.instead the relevant questions are 1)how quickly will we run out of cheap oil and 2)how quickly will we adapt to running out of cheap oil.

I am no expert on the matter, but to be frank, I think that no one is.I think that we will run out of oil quickly.we will get to an “oh shit” moment and realize that cheap oil is arrived; ie it won’t be a tenable, gradual occurrence.on the longer end, the how quickly we will adapt, I am a little more optimistic.I think that we will have a decade of stagflation, but only a decade of stagflation.

Conclusion One day peak cheap oil will come.when that day comes, I think that stagflation will grip the economy because of a decrease in the aggregate supply curve.if that is the case, then we will have persistent, unsolvable, wrenching stagflation.

One man heads back to the drawing board

March 15th, 2011

Chris Reitz has left his role at a major manufacturer to help develop a hydrogen fuel-cell car.

Wednesday, 23 February 2011

Everybody who works for a big company has probably had the same inconvenient thought at one time or another. that nagging suspicion the grass might be greener on the other side of the fence marking the boundaries of corporate life. that a more interesting, more socially useful existence might be possible if only one could break free. Very few of us act upon such feelings, but the Austrian-born car designer Chris Reitz did. Last year, he left a long career in senior positions with three of the world’s biggest automotive groups – Volkswagen, Nissan and Fiat – to join Riversimple, a small UK-based operation that is developing one of the world’s first hydrogen fuel-cell cars.

“You see the problems of working in a big company and you get frustrated by the systems,” he explains. It would be putting it too strongly to say that Reitz was fed up in his previous job, leading the design function for Fiat’s Alfa Romeo brand, but he eventually realised the “big limitation” of heading a design team. “You think you can change things, but you cannot,” he says.

Reitz grew up in Munich. he was “always fascinated by anything to do with mobility and four wheels” and studied at the Swiss branch of Art Center College of Design, which has produced many of the motor industry’s leading designers in Europe and the US. he joined Volkswagen in the early Nineties to work on concept cars before transferring to Audi, where he was involved with the A2. After becoming head of advanced design, he was approached to lead Nissan’s European design studio, where he helped develop the Mk III Micra as well as contributing to the early stages of the Qashqai. Lastly, he went to Fiat, where he became design director first for Fiat-branded cars and later for Alfa Romeo.

Most of today’s cars are the result of collaboration, rather than bearing the authoritative stamp of a single designer, but Reitz was a part of the Fiat 500 team and fittingly, in the light of his later role with Riversimple, a number of eco-oriented models. As well as the Audi A2, he had a hand in the “3-litre” fuel saving version of the Volkswagen Lupo, and developed an early interest in exotic – at least in everyday car-making – materials, such as magnesium.

Reitz was already familiar with and interested in Riversimple thanks to his connections with the Piëch family – a branch of the Porsche dynasty, some of whom were principal investors in the project. Even while he was at Alfa Romeo, he would often ponder the question of what a small hydrogen fuel-cell car might look like and how it could be built. there are substantial challenges in designing such a vehicle, which appears to have been one of the factors that drew Reitz towards the project.

The Riversimple car will be very different in mechanical terms to those we drive today. that means the main components will be packaged differently too, opening up completely new possibilities for rearranging the space within the vehicle for passengers and their luggage. Just one example is the wheels, which will contain the car’s motors, freeing up space usually taken up by a combustion engine. As Reitz says: “We need to think about more than making nice shapes.”

Those exotic materials will be important, too. Reitz explains that sustainability and recyclability are vital to the Riversimple concept. One consequence is that any carbon fibre used will have to have an unpainted finish. This appeals to Reitz on aesthetic grounds as well. When he was involved in the design of the Alfa Romeo 8c, he was frustrated that this exceptional material was hidden under the paintwork, rather than being shown off in uncoated form.

The design of the car will be influenced by another aspect of the Riversimple philosophy as well. rather than selling cars to customers, the company will be providing mobility as a service under a form of leasing arrangement, which means that the priorities are completely different. Established motor industry practice involves convincing drivers to replace perfectly serviceable vehicles with something more exciting every few years. A Riversimple car, which may have several “owners”, needs to be more durable. As Reitz says: “The longer the car is on the street, the more money we make.”

And as if all that weren’t enough, Reitz has to keep an eye on issues such as the tooling costs as well. Riversimple’s vision involves distributed production at several sites close to the customers, rather than in big plants favoured by the mainstream industry. Riversimple’s car will also be an “open source” design. Initially, the company will produce a model with full European type approval, but partners from other parts of the world may take responsibility for adapting the basic design to local conditions and regulations. By adopting this collaborative approach, Riversimple will be able to spread its technology more easily and tap expertise from far beyond its payroll.

So what will Reitz’s first Riversimple car look like? an early concept for the vehicle, designed before Reitz formally joined the company, has already been displayed at London’s Science Museum. It probably doesn’t provide too many clues to the eventual production model, although they can perhaps be expected to be similar in terms of size and broad proportions – a two-seater Smart ForTwo is probably the closest comparison among established cars. however, it does provide basic proof of the manufacturing process, the materials and the power-train. At least for the time being, Riversimple is likely to concentrate on small urban runabouts, because the hydrogen refuelling infrastructure – another area in which the company is busy investigating new business models and partners – is initially likely to be densest in urban districts.

Can the Riversimple project succeed? A trial planned for the streets of Leicester in 2012 will provide the first clues. There’s a lot riding on Reitz’s work.

KSWO, Lawton, OK- Wichita Falls, TX: News, Weather, Sports. ABC, 24/7, Telemundo – Personalized seats for sale at Lawton City Hall auditorium

March 10th, 2011

LAWTON, Okla. – Progress on the city's multi-million dollar renovation of the new city hall. Now, they're turning their attention to the auditorium. That means the city is picking out paint colors, seating arrangements and more.  Despite the fact that millions have already been poured into the project, everything isn't funded. That includes the planned-for 400 seats that will fill the auditorium.  That's where the city is asking for your help. They're hoping people will donate $500 to buy a personalized seat.

The city said they planned for this all along. They thought it was a way the public could be involved in the process and they'd be able have a piece of history with their name on it in the very place many Lawtonians called school years ago in the old Lawton High.

For Ward 3 City Councilwoman Janice Drewry, just being in new city hall brings back memories. Drewry was a student at old Lawton High years ago, but her memory of it is a little different.

“The chairs we used to have were all wood no cushions and when you opened them they just clanked, just made this loud noise so whenever everyone rushed into the auditorium, you could just hear all the chairs clanking,” said Drewry.

The new chairs have a new and improved look, but they're sticking with Lawton High red. Plus, everyone who chooses can have their own personal touch.

“Whatever you can fit in 30 characters. you could do a family member or a group, maybe a former council member,” said City Manager Larry Mitchell.

The auditorium will hold 400 or so chairs. City Manager Larry Mitchell hopes people will have donated the funds for at least half of them by the time they open the new council chambers late this summer. when it all does come together, he hopes getting the community involved makes people feel more a part of what goes on in council chambers.

“The things that go into making the building a little more special. It's really going to be a neat project when we have it finished,” said Mitchell.

Those like Janice Drewry, who will watch from the audience from now on, already think it is.

“I was very excited about it. I think it's great I can't wait to see the set up in the auditorium,” said Drewry.

The city has sold about 25 seats already and buyers can pick which seat they'd like to buy using this seating chart. Mitchell said if they don't sell all the seats by the time they hope to open the auditorium in July or August, then they would have to find the funding elsewhere.

For information on how you can buy a seat in the auditorium, you can call the city manager's office at 581-3301. you can also stop by and see the chair for yourself and pick out what you'd like yours to say.

Suggested Inspections And Servicing To Keep Your Audi And VW Running Well

February 2nd, 2011

Audi and Volkswagen owners know when they purchase their car or crossover SUV, they are buying the best of high-quality German engineering, and can reasonably expect their automobile to be running smoothly and remain stylish well beyond 100,000 miles. However, even the best-engineered cars need regular maintenance, which is why both Audi and VW supply a recommended servicing schedule for each car’s maintenance. Audi and Volkswagen service can be done either at a dealership or at a specialty foreign car auto repair shop.

Most car maintenance begins with regular oil changes, approximately every 5000 miles in most modern cars. while most car owners are aware of this servicing requirement, fewer know much about how many different types of lubricants and other fluids are in their car. Other than oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid and windshield washer fluid can all have a significant impact on your vehicle’s function and safety on the roads.

For your peace of mind, and for best maintenance of your expensive vehicle, it is recommended that you have an Audi or Volkswagen service shop perform a relatively quick and easy quarterly check on fluid levels in your vehicle, just to ensure that there are no costly surprise emergencies later on.

Besides checking the fluids, your auto repair shop can also do a quick inspection of other important components of your car that you might overlook, such as the tire pressure, (including the spare tire); brake lights, head lights, and tail lights; the condition of belts, hoses and electrical connections. if you are not at all handy, your mechanic can also do small tasks such as adding extra lubricant to a creaky back door hinge or replacing worn out windshield wipers.

Your vehicle might also have optional extras that may require additional inspections and potential repairs, such as sun roofs and convertibles. The rubber seals of a sun roof or convertible that keep water out and noise levels down will decay with age, and may need replacing.

Manual transmissions will have different maintenance needs than automatic transmissions, and diesel engines will have different needs than gasoline engines. a quality Audi or Volkswagen service shop will always refer to manufacturer’s suggested maintenance schedule to make sure you are keeping up with your car’s needs.

Your Audi or Volkswagen is likely a large component of your daily life. In order for you to get the most enjoyment and use out of your car, it is best to establish a good working relationship with a qualified auto repair shop and take your vehicle in for routine maintenance and servicing. Preventative maintenance is far less costly than potentially major repairs. Qualified mechanics can help you extend the life of your Audi or Volkswagen and keep it on the road longer.

If you needauto repair serviceand maintenance in Denver, internet marketing strategist S. Daniels recommends Sixth Avenue Auto, which specializes in Audi and Volkswagen but can service all makes and models. All work at this trustworthy neighborhood shop is performed by ASE-certified technicians.

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage N420 Roadster, a motorsport-inspired special edition, brings a new dimension of sporting prowess and dynamic ability to the V8 Vantage range.

Successor to the special edition V8 Vantage N400 of 2007, the Vantage N420 is based upon the standard 4.7-litre, 420bhp, 180mph V8 Vantage and is available as a Coupe or Roadster, and with a six-speed manual or optional Sportshift automated manual transmission.

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage draws inspiration from the company’s experiences at the Nürburgring 24-hour race. In the 2006 running of the annual Nürburgring endurance classic amongst a field of mostly motorsport homologated cars, Aston Martin entered a near-standard, road-registered V8 Vantage. Driven by a team of employees, including Aston Martin’s CEO, Dr Ulrich Bez, the V8 Vantage – named ‘Rose’ by the team – finished 4th in class and 24th overall from a field of more than 200 specialised racing cars.

Since then Aston Martin has returned every year to compete in this gruelling endurance race, scoring a string of class victories and podiums with road-registered V8 and V12 Vantages and most recently the new four-door Rapide. Not only has this racing success spawned a burgeoning V8 Vantage GT4 customer programme run by Aston Martin Racing, but lessons learned in racing at the Nürburgring has led to aerodynamic and other performance developments being fed back into Aston Martin’s road cars.

A generous standard specification and some unique options ensure the special edition Aston Martin V8 Vantage is both exclusive and distinctive, while also offering a 27kg weight saving – achieved through the application of carbon fibre – over the standard V8 Vantage.

On the outside, wider sills combine perfectly with a carbon fibre splitter, side strakes and diffuser, while bold 10-spoke diamond turned alloy wheels complete with gloss black finish, black mesh vents and ‘Graphitic’ tailpipe finishers complete the co-ordinated look.

Inside the Aston Martin V8 Vantage offers an Iridium interior package, with graphite instruments, leather or Alcantara® steering wheel, special N420 sill plaques and lightweight carbon fibre seats, complete with ‘Race Track’ stitching as in the V12 Vantage. Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control and Park Distance Control are also standard.

Cementing the Aston Martin V8 Vantage’s credentials as a special edition V8 Vantage tailored for the most discerning and enthusiastic drivers, it is fitted with the normally optional Sports Pack. this package combines revised springs, dampers and anti-roll bars for even more responsive and dynamic handling, while retaining the V8 Vantage’s renowned poise, balance and long distance ability. Finally, a new sports exhaust system delivers a suitably rousing soundtrack.

A further distinctive feature is the availability of a new range of optional Aston Martin ‘Race Collection’ paint schemes. Pairing bold body colours with contrasting hues for the cant rails and radiator grille surround, they celebrate the marque’s racing heritage. all of the company’s successful N24 Vantage racers are celebrated, with ‘Rose’ yellow, ‘Kermit’ green and ‘Elwood’ blue all featuring in the collection along with traditional Aston Martin Racing green. the white and black car shown in the accompanying images wears the equally striking ‘Asia Cup’ livery.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage N420 prices start from £96,995.

Saab » New Saab Models Featured

January 1st, 2011

Now that Saab is under new ownership, new models are rolling out to be sold at your local dealership. The 2010 9-3 and the 2011 9-5 are two fantastic models. Let’s check out some of their features!

2010 9-3 and 9-3 XWD

This 9-3 model comes with a 2.0 liter, four cylinder engine and has nice gas mileage on the highway of 31 mpg.  The engine is very efficient and high in performance, but past Saab owners will notice that previous generation Chicago Saab 9-3 models were fitted with a V6 engine. The base 2.0 liter change was a decision that Spyker made in the hopes of helping fuel economy, while still providing the driver with plenty of power for sedan driving.

The base 9-3 comes with front wheel drive, but if you prefer Saab’s all-wheel drive system, especially this time of year, the XWD models would be the way to go.  a six-speed manual transmission is the standard option, but if you want an automatic transmission, that is considered an option.  Like 9-3 models of recent years, the 2010 models come with the clean and attractive exterior body and a roomy interior with plenty of convenience features such as a tilting and telescopic steering wheel, automatic temperature control, and steering wheel mounted stereo controls.

2011 9-5

This all-new model might be one of the most anticipated Saab models that we’ve seen here in a long time.   Compared to other models sold at your Chicago Saab dealership, the 2011 9-5 is wider, longer and leaner.  in fact, it is larger than other autos in its class.  The 2011 9-5 is available in either the base or Aero models.  The base, Turbo 4 sedan is standard with front wheel drive (like the base 9-3), but if you crave an all-wheel drive system, the Aero is where it’s at.

The engine used in this newest 9-5 model is a direct-injected sampling that gives plenty of power.  You might see the direct-injected description and think that gas mileage is not good, but for the 2011 9-5, its right around 27 mpg for the highway, which is slightly less than the 31 for the 9-3, but still pretty good.

There are also a plethora of safety and convenience features found in this model, and of course options that will really make driving this sedan a treat.  Visit Patrick Saab now, your local Chicago Saab dealership, and see the selection of new autos!
