Naruto: Where’s my fix?
The French writer Xavier Guilbert has written an interesting editorial
The scanlation sites are certainly getting bolder. I got an email today from one of them telling me that they had just uploaded a whole bunch of new content, and to stop on by.
Both sides to get together and work on developing online content where yes, the recent chapters can be shown for a limited time. Afterwards, the publishers can say “If you want to see this again, it will be collected in a volume shortly”
Also, what would you say about a Crunchyroll-style subscription service for manga?
I did an entry about this. You can take a look at: mangatherapy.com/post/703231700/scanlationdebate
“Guilbert looks at the Alexa rankings for Onemanga.com; thinking that users had simply shifted to other sites, I compared Onemanga with several other sites and came to the conclusion that traffic is either flat or down for all of them in the past six months.”
I’d point out that most of these site-ranking websites use relative, not absolute, measures of activity; it might be that Onemanga et alia have the same number of views, but that the total number of views over the entire web have increased, such that they have a smaller percentage
JRB,You do have a point there. Indeed, reach and pageviews are relative to the total Internet traffic and population. I don’t know if Alexa publishes estimates of its overall sample — I haven’t been able to locate anything remotely approaching on their website.
I’ve looked at the pageviews share evolution according to Alexa over the past two years, for the top sites identified by Google in their list (google.com/adplanner/static/top1000/) … and there is no common behavior that emerges, that would point at a significant overall growth of all pageviews due to increased traffic. Some go up (Google, Facebook), others go down (Yahoo, Live.com) and Wikipedia is stable.
So I suppose the jury’s still out on that one…
