In yet another unprecedented act, Gov. Edgar Chatto on Thursday delivered right from China his weekly governors report to the members of the Bohol Tri-Media Association (BTMA) and entire Boholano people live via Skype.
Skype is a software application that allows users to make voice calls over the Internet. It has become popular for its additional features which include instant messaging, file transfer, and video conferencing.
The program was taped for airing for Friday mornings Kita ug Ang Gobernador. Chatto spent the week in Jiangxi, China for the 2nd World Famous Mountains Conference on Mt. Lushan on October 11 15.
In his report, the governor relayed the Boholano delegations experience at the conference where Chocolate Hills has been recognized and accepted as a charter member of the international body.
The Boholano delegation was met by no less than Ambassador Carlos Chan, RPs Special Envoy to China.
To commemorate the 35th year of the establishment of the diplomatic ties between the Philippines and China, a Postage Stamp Exhibit and the Jiangxi-Bohol Mail Exchange Program were launched.
The activities were prepared for them by the Jiangxi Provincial Peoples Government thru its Department of Foreign Affairs Office and the Jiangxi Postal and Philatelic Association.
The exhibit displayed commemorative covers and postal stamps that featured the Chocolate Hills and other tourist spots in Bohol. The mail exchange program paved the way for 35 grade school pupils from Bohol to correspond with 35 Chinese school children.
On top of numerous national and local media interviews and meetings with top Jiangxi officials, Chatto delivered three keynote speeches and was able to preside at the plenary of the mountains proper.
He showcased the Chocolate Hills and presented the tourism programs of Bohol and the Philippines to 24 representatives from other world famous mountains, such as Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa, Mt. Hood in North America and Mt. Fuji in Japan.
Sending a powerful message on tourism alongside environmental preservation and natural assets management, the governor displayed the uniqueness of the Chocolate Hills to encourage tourists to visit one of the worlds wonders.
With investment as one of the top priorities of the provincial government, the governor engaged in an investment forum and promotions activity with the Beijing Office of the Philippine Embassy. The forum hopes to create investor relations in the fields of tourism, agriculture, environment, including Business Process Outsourcing (BPO).
Before leaving Jiangxi, the Boholano delegation visited some elementary schools in Jiangxi where the Philippine Embassy facilitated the turnover of Filipino folklore books to Chinese school children.
Aimed at promoting understanding and friendship between Philippines and China as well as the friendly cooperation between the provinces of Bohol and Jiangxi, the visit to China was the first ever high-level delegation after the tragic hostage situation in the country back in August.
The governor was joined by his wife and Bohol First Lady, Pureza, Provincial Administrator Alfonso Damalerio II, Bohol Employment and Placement Office (BEPO) head Romulo Tagaan, Provincial Engr. Rosalinda Yu and Carmen Mayor Conchita Toribio-Delos Reyes. (Leah/EDCom)
