Websites for child and mother products are providing parents with unlimited choice.

Till two decades ago, the birth of a baby in a middle-class family meant a few days of festivities, a few sets of new clothes, home-made nappies, sheets made out of old cotton sarees, a rubber sheet, a mosquito net and one or two feeding bottles. Parents would buy a crib at the most, for the first child, which was seen as an investment for the second and subsequent children. most visitors would bring packets of Johnson & Johnson baby products, ensuring the stock lasted till the baby grew up.

Even as children born 30 years ago become parents, they find that baby care has changed considerably in India. Considered a luxury that only ?the rich? could afford, diapers are a necessity now. You no longer shop just for feeding bottles, for you have to ensure the product is anti-colic and BPA-free (without toxins).

With malls and international retail chains opening franchisees in the last decade, branded clothes and other high-end products for babies became accessible to Indian households, at least in the metros and Tier-I cities. Though consumers have increased manifold, only a few shops sell these products. this means every time you need a new set of Mothercare teats or Chicco laundry detergent, you have to rush to the shop at the other end of the city. and even if your neighbourhood store sells these products, it may be out of stock when most needed.

This is where websites like FirstCry.com and Babeezworld.com come handy. Based on the model popular in the West, these websites stock everything ? from diapers and anti-mosquito wipes to prams and cots. and they do have takers, as people can place orders online and have products delivered at home, for no extra cost. At FirstCry.com, certain products are also available on discount.

Innovative Flash Steam System From TLV Provides Payback in Just Seven Months

December 8th, 2011

Cheltenham, UK (PRWEB UK) 7 December 2011

a flash steam recovery system designed by TLV Euro Engineering for Watford Launderers and Cleaners has saved the laundry specialist hundreds of tonnes of steam since installation and achieved payback in just seven months.

No surprise then that the flash steam system also achieved third place in the Combustion Engineering Association’s 2011 Lord Ezra Award, which recognises individuals, groups or companies that have benefitted the combustion engineering industry, with new and innovative ideas.

Processing 400,000 pieces per week for London’s demanding 4 and 5 star hotels and establishing a loyal customer base by maintaining the highest standards, Watford Launderers & Cleaners invested heavily in upgrading its linen handling and washing facilities with a new state-of-the-art laundry batch washer and five steam-heated tumble dryers. (Watford LC) called on TLV’s expertise to liaise with the laundry equipment manufacturers to redesign the batch washers existing live steam supply to incorporate a flash steam system that would not only cope with an 870 tonnes annual demand, but also offer significant cost reduction.

During the planning stage it became clear to TLV engineers that the integration of the new processing line could require major alterations to facilitate efficient condensate return from the five tumble dryers back to the existing condensate collection and flash vessel system. It could also prove extremely problematic because, even though the condensate could return more directly, the amount of flash steam produced would cause problems in the boiler hotwell.

Following a fundamental review and some additional calculations, TLV proved the benefits and approximate payback period that could be achieved by installing a steam handling system that provides flash steam for the batch washer and a small amount of live steam from the boiler at the beginning of each day.

“The figures speak for themselves,” says TLV Euro Engineering’s regional sales engineer Andy Rout. “Once the drying facilities are operating, flash steam accounts for 93% of the supply to the batch washer with live steam accounting for only 7%. this has meant that payback for the steam system has been delivered in just seven months, and carbon emissions have been dramatically reduced.”

To ensure the system worked smoothly, a meeting of Watford LC’s laundry engineers, TLV Euro Engineering and the laundry equipment manufacturers was arranged in order to discuss the problems associated with a condensate return system and explain the necessity of reusing flash steam. The manufacturers were then able to re-programme the system software to enable the flash steam and live steam systems to operate in parallel. They also developed a programme to measure the operational hours of the live and flash steam systems in an effort to understand the actual savings generated by the TLV design.

Explaining the system in more detail, Andy says that at the beginning of each day (for approximately one hour) the system runs on mostly live steam from the boiler because no flash steam has yet been produced. It is not until all ten pockets of the batch washer have been filled and laundry items transferred to the tumble dryers that the process of raising flash steam begins.

As the tumble dryers come online they create a huge volume of condensate, which is transferred to the boiler hotwell. The flash steam component of this condensate is transferred back to the pockets of the batch washer, which means that less and less live steam is used as the drying process continues. And when all five tumble dryers are operational, the process runs entirely on flash steam.

Recent figures from Watford LC suggest that, with the batch washer using flash steam for over nine hours of a ten hour working day and with the system operating six days per week, fifty two weeks per year, the performance compared to a live steam system has exceeded all expectations.

Summarising for Watford Launderers and Cleaners, laundry engineer Steve Haddow says: “We were very impressed with the assistance provided by TLV Euro Engineering at every stage of the process. The system has delivered exactly what its engineers promised and, as such, we would have no hesitation in recommending TLV as a solutions provider and component manufacturer.”

The Buzz: Scarves, ties among gifts to California representatives

February 3rd, 2011

California Rep. Nancy Pelosi got to keep just one of the three E. Marinella scarves given to her by Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

But a pair of Murano glass candlesticks and a matching bowl of gold iridescent glass from the Italian leader – worth $950 – were kept for official display in the House speaker’s office that the San Francisco Democrat then occupied.

Those items were among scores of gifts that foreign government sources gave to federal employees in 2009, according to State Department records released in the Federal Register this week.

Pelosi, who returned two scarves because they exceeded gift limits, also reported receiving a 4-by-6-foot silk screen of a Yangtze River gorge from Chinese official Wu Bangguo.

Her office was granted permission to keep that $500 piece of art for official use, too.

Democratic Rep. George Miller of Martinez, the only other California member listed in the report, was given eight ties from Berlusconi worth an estimated $560, four of which he reported keeping for personal use.

In all cases, the report notes, accepting the gift was justified because “non-acceptance would cause embarrassment to donor and U.S. government.”

TODAY AT THE CAPITOL

The Senate will celebrate the life of the late Sen. Jenny Oropeza, who championed cancer-prevention legislation and died last October at age 53. the Long Beach Democrat will be eulogized by Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, and several members of her family are expected to attend. the tribute during the floor session will start at around 10 a.m.

Woodland couple honored by CHP

December 27th, 2010

A Woodland couple have been recognized by the California Highway Patrol for almost a decade of delivering toys to the agency’s CHiPs For Kids Toy Drive.

Connie and Howell Hoy have lived in Woodland since 2000 and have a combined four children, all grown, according to Cindy Leal, a spokeswoman for the Woodland area CHP.

“Connie grew up in a very poor family, but always felt fortunate,” Leal reported. “Howell grew up in a military family. Connie indicated she thought they both came from very giving and generous families.

Connie is a a medical laser quality manager, and Howell is a superintendent for a roofing company.

Prior to moving to Woodland Connie lived in Albuquerque, N.M., where she raised her children. She said instead of buying a lot of gifts for the kids, they went to the mall and picked names off of the Giving Tree.

After a while, the year effort became a family tradition, which continued after her three daughters moved out, and the couple came to California with their son.

“Once they got to California, the three of them went to the mall in search of the Giving Tree, but could not find one,” Leal reported. “Connie said they asked around and ended up giving to Loaves and Fishes for two years before they heard about the CHiPs For Kids Toy Drive. This is the eighth year they have donated.”

Their continuing effort was recognized last Thursday when Capt. Dale Cannon, commander of the Woodland CHP office, presented the Hoys with a Certificate of Appreciation award for their support of the CHiPs for Kids Toy Drive.

This year the couple donated more than 150 toys, including eight bicycles and helmets, several Nintendo Wii games, several Nintendo DS Lite games and a wide range of other toys.

chicsburgh: Giving it the Boot

December 7th, 2010

The snow has been lovely and festive, but downright cold! We barely finished raking up the rest of the leaves and now find ourselves concerned with shoveling the driveway. Disclaimer: This image of my pup sitting in the driveway is from February 2010, not this weekend. Just a visual reminder of what may be to come.
So, reminiscing back to the record-breaking snowfall last winter, I’ve asked Santa for winter boots this season. my wellies with a wool sock aren’t cutting it. and my Uggs are pretty much boot slippers for the house. I have to remind myself that I no longer live in a paved concrete metropolis, but a residential-slash-urban area with a lackluster plowing record. my new reality involves walking the dog to Frick Park daily. I need boots with traction and slush-resistance. Can they please, please be a little bit stylish? that means nothing that looks like a moon boot or like I should be hobbling on crutches.
The contenders:Hunter Summit Nylon bootWaterproof, check. Traction, check. Cuteness, check. seems a little pricey for nylon and rubber, no? But, they’re very wearable on the street and for errands, and hopefully would last several winters.LL Bean Quilted Duck BootI think quality is pretty much a guarantee. They’re cute and look warm and comfortable. I like the quilting, but not a fan of the contrast stitching.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Drawstring Duck BootI can’t decide if these are totally fabulous or a hefty bags tied at the ankle. Probably need to be tried on in person. But I like the contrasting materials and general fashion update on the duck boot.

Sperry Wedge BootSimple, black, completely affordable. Wedge heel adds an element of style. Too simple, though?
So, Santa, which one should you get me?

An Affordable Wardrobe: Off Season, Trading Up: Secrets of Thrift …

A long winded title, indeed. But today, we have a lot to discuss. I’m about to get long-winded, and it’s likely that I might repeat things I’ve said in the past here, but what else is new? Read on…

I suppose you might call this a “style blog”. Sure, the very term makes me feel a little gross, but that’s what this is, right? Usually, such things deal in the moment, in what’s new NOW. Oldest Textile Industry In The World | Football Shirt

October 16th, 2010

Author: Mc Lee
Source: articledashboard.com

The Indian textile industry is as old as the world textile industry. In fact the first known cotton cultivation seems to be from India followed by UK. Bombay or Mumbai as its know today is synonymous with the textile industry in India and also has the soubriquet “Manchester of the East”. However more and more textile industry has been push to other states of India particularly Gujarat and Madras which are increasingly gaining the attention of the world textile buyers. Mumbai due to its high urbanization is becoming more of realty market. However I want to add a fact to the above statements is that Mumbai is the commercial capital of India.

Lot of niche markets is opening up in India. One place I recall was quite interesting was the Tirupur Textile Industry based in Madras. The place has become synonymous with the exports of India Knit wear. The industry based here is truly thriving with all the modern equipments and technologies. It is estimated that around 35 countries of the world visit Tirupur every month. Now look at this they deliver samples of custom-made knit wear in about 12 hours and up to half a million pieces within a few days. All for the dedication and hard work of workers as well as exporters whose ultimate goal is to meet the international buyer’s requirement sometimes quite unreasonable. Today Tirupur can boast itself being in the elite list of towns with the largest foreign exchanges in India. Super quality brads like Wal-Mart’s, JC Penney, Marks and Spencers have shown a keen interest in the Tirupur textile industry consisting of around 7,000 garment units providing employment to more than a billion people.

The world is looking up to the Indian textile industry to deliver its goods using technologies used and developed elsewhere be it the USA or Japan or Hong Kong.
India has an untapped potential to become in the top three list of producers as well as exporters.

October 13th, 2010

The second day of Blenders Pride Fashion Tour started off with a bang.

The show opened with the collection of designer Gavin Miguel. Actress Sonakshi Sinha stormed the runway for the designer looking stunning in a shimmery golden gown.

Though she tripped off on the steps, she was on her heels in no time walking the ramp with confidence and panache.

Gavin’s show was all about luxury and retro modernism. The clothes had voluminous flares with edgy crystal embellishments and were in deep evening colours like black, blue, indigo, red, orange and brown.

The show started with models showing metallic black and white gowns which soon transcended into shimmery deep blue which created almost a magical effect on the ramp. The show was not just about the silhouettes but the drama created by mixing the colours. The flaming reds and orange looked gorgeous and what couldn’t be ignored was the fluidity of the gowns which made them look larger than life.

The models also sported jackets which created a sexy chic look – denoting the modern woman. Rahul and Gunjan were next in line with their collection The metaphoric jewels.

The collection of evening dresses had subtle metallic details, pearls and stones embedded on them. The show had models strutting in fitted dresses in brown, red, blue and black.

The men walked the ramp in formal wear, all of which was in dark tones. Blue was a popular shade on the ramp and the collection tried to create a great evening look without too many accessories.

Designer Asmita Marwa’s collection, titled Mediterranean Knots, was inspired by the free-spirited world traveller.

The collection was undoubtedly chic and bohemian in style. Printed pants, loose tops, sarongs, flowy dresses and overalls formed the heart of the collection. The clothes were easy on the eyes and had a definite summery feel to them.

Red, orange and white remained the popular tones and the materials used were satins and sensuous chiffon. Actress Ramya was the showstopper for Asmita and she walked the ramp in a beautiful red dress.

The grand finale was as dramatic as one could imagine. Vikram Phandis enchanted the audience with a kaleidoscope of fabrics, colours and embellishments. His collection celebrated the vivacious artistic motifs on gentle fluid drapes in vivid colours.

The show came to an end with actor Zayed Khan walking the ramp in a rich and colourful sherwani, dazzling the audience with his style. High on glitz and glamour, the fashion tour was a grand success among the City’s fashionistas.

What are the best range finders GPS or laser range finders

September 27th, 2010

There are two types of range finders to help the golfer find his distance to the hole, we will start this review with the gps range finder.

The gps range finders are becoming increasingly common amongst golfers of all abilities, they use a global positioning system to track where the golfer is relative to the hole he or she is playing. The one big advantage of gps is that they can give you yardages to the front, middle, and back of the green, however they cannot give you pin point yardages to the pin, this is up to you to know whether the pin is at the front, middle, or back of the green.

The one thing you will have to do before you start using your gps is download the course details where you are going to play, this can be done easily by going on the Internet and downloading the course details to your gps system. There can be a small charge involved with this process, therefore you should take this in to consideration when deciding which type is best for you.

They can be very accurate providing you know where the pin positions are located, the only downside to a gps is that if the weather turns really bad it could have an affect on the signal coming from the satellite to your unit. Although to be perfectly honest if the weather gets that bad with electrical storms you should not be playing golf anyway, in my opinion the gps system is probably the easiest one to use to get excellent yardages to three areas on the green.

There are different makes of gps on the market today and with more appearing all the time helps to bring the price down to an affordable level, the skycaddie seems to be a very popular model amongst the different golfers i see playing and could be worthy of consideration when looking for a range finder.

The laser range finders are totally different in design and application, they use a laser beam to pin point a target which then bounces back to the unit giving a reading on how far it is away. These however can be a bit awkward when you start to use them, you have to have a reasonably steady hand to pick out the flag when aiming the beam.

But after a while of using the laser range finders you will soon get the hang of picking out the flag and not some other objects like a tree or post, this type can be very accurate in getting you your yardages to the pin and can also be used to check yardages from hazards so you know how much club to take to clear the trouble.

If you are the type of golfer who requires extremely accurate information on yardages then the laser range finder could be your choice of range finder, I see a lot of golfers using the bushnell v2 tour pinseeker nowadays which can only be a good endorsement of the product. In my own golf game i do use the bushnell v2 and find It very easy to use once you get the hang of it, it gives extremely accurate yardages which i am looking for in a range finder and is very compact making it is easy to store away in my golf bag.

So it is down to your own personal choice which finder would suit your game, but in my opinion the laser range finders just egde out the gps systems on the market today. The one thing that every golfer should know before they purchase a range finder is how far they hit each club on average, it wont do you any good knowing the yardage if you dont know how far you hit each club.

What Type of Garden Chair Cushion Will You Go For Now

September 27th, 2010

From time to time you will have to replace your cushion on a chair or patio furniture. This can be very challenging at the greatest of times especially if your cushions are old or are made by a reliable manufacturer, but worry not as a lot of manufacturers are prepared for this. Different manufacturers will sell you a single on its own to match your existing cushions but this will cost a little bit more.

If on the other hand you are not looking to buy a single cushion but are looking to replace the lot then you are in luck as there are a lot more to choose from now than there used to be. Now buying a set of cushions is very hassle free and you do not need the worry of stains or a small amount spot of water.

Maintaining your patio cushions is an worthy factor when choosing your fabric. A lot of fabrics can be cleaned with a uncomplicated detergent or cleaning agent and then washed off thoroughly. The fabrics used now in cushions are meant to endure a lot of punishment but are not impregnable so still handle them with respect and they will last a long time.

If you fail to maintain the patio cushions you might end up in exactly the same place you are in now, looking for a replacement cushion. A lot of companies offer a wide range of several designs in patterns and colours so you can alter the look and feel of a room simply by changing your cushions. You may go for a bright colour or something with a festive theme but whatever you go for will change the look and feel of your room or patio area.

If you spend a lot of time in your outside area and you have noticed that your cushions have lost there colour or have lost their plumpness as they do over time then there are many new materials on the market that lessen this type of problem. One more thing to consider is the actual shape of the cushion and not just the style and fabric. The thickness of the cushion also has a role to play as if you want to stretch out in a sort of recliner position then you might need a thicker cushion to make you feel more comfortable.

Another sort of chair you may have is the wicker chair and this sort of chair with the aid of a cushion really does improve the comfort of the chair. With new manufacturing processes and different types and styles of the more traditional wicker chair can now be bought. Patio cushions for wicker chairs are widely obtainable to match your cushions with your wicker chair.

If you spend a lot of time outside whether it be entertaining or just chilling out then a new set of patio cushions will feel really special and if treated right will last a long time, giving you hours of comfort if the weather permits it of course.

Recipe: Edouard's French Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

August 31st, 2010

Yield: about 3 quarts

  • 25 1/4 ounces (750 milliliters) whole milk, see cook’s notes
  • 8 1/4 ounces (250 milliliters) heavy whipping cream
  • 1 1/3 cup sugar (300 grams), divided use
  • 5 whole vanilla beans, Tahitian preferred
  • 10 egg yolks
  • 3 to 4 cups of ice cubes in a large bowl
  • Ice cream machine

Cook’s notes: Use a liquid measuring cup to measure the milk and cream (those are the clear cups that are glass or see-through plastic). Often they have measurements in ounces on one side and liters on the other side.

Procedure:

1. In a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine whole milk and cream. (Use hormone-free, rich whole milk and cream, from a smaller farm if possible, such as Alta Dena, Hollandia or Rockview). Whisk in 2/3 cup sugar. (Adding part of the sugar at this point prevents scorching.) Using a small, sharp knife, split the vanilla beans in half, lengthwise, leaving them intact (attached) at one end. Scrape vanilla seeds from pods and add to mixture. Add vanilla bean pods to mixture.

2. Bring just barely to a boil on medium-high heat and remove from heat. Meanwhile, in a large stainless steel bowl, whisk egg yolks and remaining 2/3 cup sugar. (Whisk until light in color, making figure eights with the whisk. Mixture will change color, from a yellow to a yellowish white. “Blanchir,” in French.) Whisk until mixture forms a ribbon. (When the whisk is lifted, the batter falls slowly back onto the surface of the mixture, forming a ribbon-like pattern that, after a few seconds, sinks back into the batter.)

3. Remove vanilla bean pods from milk mixture. Whisk about 1 tablespoon of the hot milk mixture into the egg yolk mixture. (This is called tempering. You are gradually heating up the eggs so they won’t scramble.) Add another tablespoon of hot milk, whisking constantly. Add another 1 to 2 tablespoons of hot milk, whisking constantly. Mixture should be warm. Pour the egg mixture into the milk mixture, whisking constantly.

4. Return to medium-low heat. Using a large wooden spoon, stir constantly until mixture is thick enough to coat the spoon. (Be sure spoon comes in contact with every part of the bottom of pan as you stir. Use a zigzag motion and be sure to stir the area where the bottom meets the sides of the pan. The mixture is done when it leaves a film on the spoon. This film can be tested by drawing your finger across the coating on the spoon. If it leaves a clear path that doesn’t run, it’s ready.) Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a stainless steel bowl. Place bowl in a larger bowl with ice cubes. Stir occasionally until cool. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly on the surface of the custard. Refrigerate at least 3 hours or up to 24 hours.

5. Pour custard into ice cream machine. If your machine is small you may need to process in two batches. Process according to manufacturer’s instructions. Transfer to freezer-safe container. Cover and freeze until firm, at least 3 hours.
