LAS VEGAS–(BUSINESS WIRE)– with nearly 70 TV broadcasters now transmitting Mobile Digital TV signals to viewers in markets throughout the country, RCA is launching a new line of portable digital television sets that have the capability of receiving both Mobile DTV and standard digital TV signals. Four new products for mobile consumers will soon be available, including 3.5” and 7” pocket televisions and an innovative automobile tuner for car infotainment systems.

The new sets and car tuner/receiver can be seen at the 2011 International CES at both the RCA exhibit in Central Hall (#13338) and at the “CES Unveiled” press preview later this afternoon starting at 4PM at the Venetian Hotel. Battery-operated portable TV sets virtually disappeared with the transition to all-digital broadcasting, and the new RCA products are the first to offer consumers the reception convenience of either regular or mobile broadcasts transmitted by local TV stations.

AUGUSTA, GA. — by the time this year is over, the coroner says the number of people who have died in the county could be the most ever. in terms of violent deaths though, they’ve already reached a new high.

The coroner’s office says the number of murders has pushed their case load to nearly 1,300 deaths for the year. That’s the highest number they’ve worked since 1991, which they say was the deadliest year on record.

It’s not over yet, but even if it doesn’t break the record, the coroner says violent deaths already have reached record numbers.

“The memories will never go away,” said Debra Garnett, mother of slain 20-year-old Corey Garnett. “If I left here and went to California the memories will still go with me.”

And as far as they travel, the memories of Debra’s son, Corey being murdered back in September, still aren’t easy to picture.

“It is what it is,” she said. “Just take it day by day.”

At the coroner’s office, there’s a long list of lives being cut short just like Corey’s, said Richmond County Coroner Grover Tuten.

“I have never seen young folks with guns or the number of teens with gun related incidents,” Tuten said.

“I think they’ve been desensitized,” Garnett said. “Nobody’s guiding them and telling them there are consequences for actions like this.”

Coroner Tuten says there have been a record, 82 violent deaths this year, which includes car accidents. of all the cases, he says the young people are the toughest to watch die.

“It’s terrible,” Tuten said. “They don’t have any idea what life is all about and what’s the answer? I wish I knew.”

While they can’t answer why the homicide rate is so high, Tuten blames heat for a deadly summer for Senior Citizens and says poor health and the economy are to blame for the surging suicide numbers.

“What they don’t see is the grief they’ve caused the family. It’s terrible,” Tuten said about people who commit suicide.

A terrible feeling that Debra feels daily, especially since nobody has been brought to justice for taking her son’s life.

“Whether it’s dealt with here in the natural or dealt with when they’re standing before God and his righteousness. one thing about it is, it will be dealt with,” she added.

The 82 violent deaths could still get higher as they are still waiting on autopsy results for nearly a dozen more cases.

They haven’t compiled the final numbers for the year because it isn’t over yet, but 1,271 is the record number of deaths from 1991.

I am in love with anything ruffly and flirty – I’m totally digging the ruffled camera strap trend. and I’m really loving all the purpley grays, berry pinks, and olive greens I’ve been seeing everywhere for fall. gorgeous. I love the idea of a camera strap slipcover that can easily be changed out with new seasons and colors. and although my sewing machine usually runs and hides when it sees me glance in its general direction, this cute slipcover was pretty easy to tackle.

Wanna make one? It wasn’t too bad… promise! come on, I’ll show you.

Stuff you’ll need

• sewing machine & coordinating thread
• iron & ironing board
• camera strap
• 1/2 yard camera strap fabric
• 1/2 yard ruffle fabric
• 1/2 yard second ruffle fabric (optional)

Fabric I used

• Woodland Delight Gray Bloom by Paula Prass
• Lotus Lime Full Moon Polka Dot by Amy Butler
• Party Animal Pink by Michael Miller

Cut 2 strips of fabric for your camera strap. You’ll want to add 1″ to the length and width of the camera strap you’ll be covering.

For the length, I gave myself a little extra room for the slipcover to hang over – I measured from the middle of the X’s on the leather ends of each strap.

For the width, measure at the widest part of the strap on the leather ends.

My measurements were 24″ x 1.75″, so I cut 2 strips of 25″ x 2.75″.

Turn the short sides of the strap fabric in 1/4″ and press. when pressing the second strip, make sure the ends line up so both strips are the same length.

Hem the short sides you just pressed, back-stitching at the beginning and end.

(That’s the button that looks like a U-turn.)

Line up the two strips and pin – right sides together.

Since the width of my camera strap is 1.75″, I want my slipcover to be 2 inches wide. use a ruler and make a pencil mark so you know where to hem so you’ll have 2″ in the middle.

This centering ruler came in handy. If you can get a picture of it upside down, even better.

Hem just one long side of the strap, back-stitching at the beginning and end.

See? Just one side. Remove pins and set aside.

Now if you did want to go ahead and stitch the other side…

You’d have a very basic slipcover. Easy! you could find some super fun fabric and change this out all the time.

But today we want to add ruffles.

Cut a strip of fabric for the ruffle. You’ll want it to be the same width and double the length of your camera strap.

I cut mine 2″ x 42″.

(My fabric wasn’t quite long enough to double the length exactly, but it was just fine.)

Fold in the long sides of the fabric in 1/4″ and press. now this can be kind of tricky, so I used a piece of cardstock to help keep a straight edge.

Hem the long sides of the ruffle fabric. I used a zig-zag stitch to add a little fun texture.

But you could use a straight stitch too. If you’re going with the zig-zag stitch, hem the fabric right side up – I think it looks better.

Sew a basting stitch (that’s the longest stitch your machine will do) down the middle of the ruffle fabric, leaving a long string at the end.

Now grab that camera strap fabric, open it up, and pin the end of the ruffle fabric to the end of the camera strap (on whichever side you want to be the front).

Starting at the other end, find the long strings you left. Grab the bottom string (from the bobbin thread) and gently pull the fabric to gather & ruffle.

Arrange ruffle evenly onto strap, leaving about 1″ on both ends un-ruffled.

Pin and sew into place using a straight stitch right down the middle, back-stitching at beginning and end.

Remove the pins and the basting stitch. Pull the bottom thread out first, like you’re gathering again, then the top thread. Don’t worry, it should come out pretty easily!

Now it was looking pretty fabulous with just one ruffle, but I just couldn’t resist…  I had to add a second ruffle!

To add a second ruffle, cut another strip of ruffle fabric, the same length, but not quite as wide as the previous ruffle.

I cut my second ruffle strip 1.75″ x 42″.

Repeat the previous steps to add the second ruffle. when you are done, you’ll want to sew a straight stitch across the short sides of the slip cover, sewing the ruffles in place at the bottom.

Now fold the slipcover over, right sides together. find the pencil mark you made, and sew a straight stitch down the long side of the fabric to close the slipcover, back-stitching at the beginning and end.

Turn the slipcover right-side out and slip onto your strap!

You now have a custom, gorgeous, ruffly, feminine camera strap! and it’s a slipcover, so you can change it out as much as you like.

Walls in a home or even office setting are often under utilized for storage and even decoration. With proper planning and design, plain, boring walls can become a functional and beautiful means for displaying favorite pictures, treasured items and even electronics equipment and more. This frees up floor space and even protects valuables from damage. The way to go, however, is by using smart wall mount systems.

If you’ve ever watched a perfectionist hang a picture or mount a shelf, you understand that putting up a wall mount really isn’t as simple as hammering a nail into a wall, putting the item up and walking away after saying viola! The process, if security and correct placement are desired, is a bit more involved than that.

Whether you want to hang a mirror, put up shelves, mount a television or DVD player or put up a shadow box, protecting your item or items from damage is key. To do this, you will need the following things: stud finder, pencil, measuring tape, level and, of course, the mounting system you plan to use.

Start out by measuring the mounting item you want to place. Whether it’s a picture, a shelving system or a specially designed wall mount for placing a television and elevating it above ground level, knowing how much space you will need is important. Pay attention to overall size and measure the points where mounting screws, nails or hooks are supposed to go. Write these down!

Now, proceed to the wall where you intend to mount your pictures, shelves or so on. Find the studs if you’re hanging a particularly heavy item. You do not want to place a very heavy object into straight drywall as it will be prone to falling down. This could not only break your item, it could damage your wall. The stud finder will help you locate the places behind the drywall where actual wood is hidden. This is where you’ll want to place your nails, if at all possible. Mark the location of the studs.

Measure out on the wall where you’d like to hang your item and make notations on where the nails are supposed to go. Refer back to the measurements you took that pertain to the item. I got the 5MDH to fit my nikon d40x with 18-200 lens attached. also to hold a JVC Everio GZ-HM200 Dual SD High-Def Camcorder (Black), plus all chargers, cables, cards and my wallet/checkbook when we travel. NEUTRAL to POSITIVE
At first the color bugged me, thought the outside was too dull, and the inside was wrong. the interior color on this brown/orange one is more of a teal to my eyes, not baby blue like the picture. that was disappointing because I really wanted the baby blue. but while I think I can now live with the teal, I’ve discovered the brown is really great because it goes with everything and isn’t as typical as black (black would still scream camera bag to me). It’s a deep, rich brown and the orange makes it fun. at first I desperately wanted the purple one but it’s the old style and I prefer the new style because of the velcro silencer.

CONS
it’s an odd combination of just the right size and a little too bulky. I wish it collapsed a little more, but the slightly stiffer form will likely protect the precious contents better. honestly, the longer I have it, the more I love it. It’s like it has a personality almost, and just demands to be loved for what it is…

It’s too expensive, but just like most every other house on the market, million dollar homes are overpriced. maybe you can catch a sale. I think $60 is reasonable, $80 was obscene, but I’m keeping it. I guess quality comes at a price. they should have more than 5 color combos though. if I were to exchange it would be for color.
