On Saturday 5th September the high flying Bees will be paying a visit to recently relegated Charlton. BIAS have written to their Operations Director, Mick Everett, to seek advice for all Bees fans making the trip to the Valley.
Our last game there, in the FA Cup, saw some Brentford fans experience problems with the way the game was stewarded. BIAS aims to ensure Bees fans are kept informed, in an effort to avoid any repetition of the problems experienced last time around.
BIAS urges all fans to enjoy their day at the Valley. Some of the advice received is very straightforward, but it would be wise for Bees fans to take a moment to ensure they are clear about the expectations of Charlton FC and the Charlton Stewards.
Entry and Behaviour in the Ground
Charlton will welcome all Brentford supporters to the game and hope their trip to The Valley is an enjoyable one. They also hope that all fans obey any instructions in relation to the ground regulations that may be given to them by stewards.
Any supporter attempting to enter the Ground or being inside the Ground whilst drunk will be ejected. Similarly anyone in possession of any intoxicating liquor, or bottle, can or other portable container and which could cause damage or personal injury, when entering the ground, may be excluded.
The Valley is smoke-free. Smoking is not permitted inside the Ground.
Tickets
Tickets on the day will be sold from the South Stand ticket office which is adjacent to the away turnstiles.
Standing
Charlton FC accepts that supporters will stand at certain times during the course of a game, particularly at times of high excitement when goals are scored, penalties awarded, and controversial decisions made. Persistent standing throughout the game is not acceptable.
Standing also means that both children and older fans are forced to stand because the supporters in front of them are standing and blocking their view.
Charlton stated “Whilst we understand that large numbers may persistently stand what is not acceptable is standing in aisles and walkways as these have to be kept clear at all times. The obstruction of gangways, access ways, exits and entrances, stairways and like places is strictly forbidden.”
Searching
Bags and Rucksacks will be subject to searching, as will supporters themselves. This is normal procedure at The Valley, and searching also occurs in home areas as well so away fans should not feel that they are being victimised.
Ground regulation (6) stipulates that all persons seeking entrance to the Ground acknowledge the Club’s right to search any person entering the ground. Charlton can refuse entry to or eject from the Ground any person refusing to submit to a search.
Inflatables and Head gear will be dealt with on an individual basis. If they are deemed to be too large or of an unsuitable nature, then Charlton FC will not allow them to be brought in.
Away Pub
Before the game, Charlton advises away fans to use The Antigallican pub. Its location is just down the road from Charlton station, on the corner of Woolwich Road, and Charlton Church Lane.
If you are coming by train, turn left outside of the station and the pub is on your right.
Feedback
If any supporters do experience problems at Charlton or witness Brentford fans being treated unfairly then BIAS would like to receive their eye witness account or side of the story, so that if need be we can pursue any issues that may have arisen.
