Before we move on, let's remember who lent a hand …

July 19th, 2010

As this school year ends, we are preparing for the 2010-2011 school year. Before we move on, we need to take a moment to thank everyone who made last year a great success.

And, we can’t forget to thank our students, who never cease to amaze us with their generosity; there was the Penny Drive, and even the last two days of school our seniors dug deep into their pockets to help fund 20 students who could not afford the tickets to Grad Nite. Because of the generosity of our students, ASB, community members, the Orange Education Foundation and parents, all students who wanted to attend Grad Nite were able to go to Disneyland with their classmates.

We also want to thank our community partners and supporters: Chapman University, Chapman Coffee House and The Home Depot.

Our students have received many scholarships from supporters, including: the Orange Rotary Club, the JAMES H FEARNS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND, the YWCA, Schools First Federal Credit Union, the Friendly Center, Bill Stotts, Jack Dayneko, Tom Ruiz, Bob Hobbs, OHS PTSA, California PTA, Orange Community Council of PTA’s, Gemzyme, Bill Frantz, the Virginia Gunther Memorial, Kiwanis of Orange, U.S. Marine Crops, AVID Assistance League of Orange and Imagine–America.

Our students earned more than a million dollars in scholarships.

Day two-or-things we have learned.

July 18th, 2010

The first thing we have learned, unquestionably, is the fact that I should definitely post BEFORE dinner, as leaving it till after dinner just ends up with me tired, in a rush, and slightly drunk.  But, as brevity is the soul of wit, I will be brief.

First off, dinner last night was lemon chicken and Greek potatoes which is one of my favorite dishes in the entire world.  For those of you who don’t know, effectively you quarter a bunch of potatoes, then you drown them and a bunch of chicken legs in olive oil and lemon, cover in oregano, then roast until its the best thing ever.  Our cook is a little Greek lady named Irinia who is incredibly sweet and who cooks amazingly and extensively.  I was hoping to loose some weight here.  Maybe not.

Went to see the World Cup final last night with a Spaniard in Iraklio which was pretty cool.  Today I woke up at 6 as my roomate likes to work out in the room for an hour and a half before work (fun) before heading up to the stratigraphic museum (or Strat from here on in) for a tour and introduction to the project.  We then drove up a ridge on the east of the city to get a view of the landscape which was amazing and breathtaking.  I’ll talk more about that when I have more time.   Then spent the rest of the day sorting sherds which was engaging if nothing else.  Boring post compared to yesterday I know but tomorrow is another day.  Stuff is happening but I’ll bring you up to speed tomorrow.
