Is Duke Nukem Forever past its sell-by date?

November 5th, 2010

The last time I had such a gnarled ornament of human shit in my hand, it belonged to Demi Moore.

That was a horrifying late-night delusion – and a cast-iron advert for why one shouldn’t eat too much Blue Stilton before napping.

Nimtoli sisters' weddings at Gonobhaban tonight

    June 28th, 2010

    Wednesday, June 9, 2010

Weddings of Ratna and Runa, the sisters who have lost family members in Nimtoli blaze, will be held tonight at Gonobhaban.

Their gaye-halud (a wedding ritual) was held yesterday at Gonobhaban, the prime minister’s official residence, said an official of PMO, which is arranging the weddings.

Earlier on Monday, when the sisters and their would-be grooms met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Ratna’s wedding was fixed Wednesday.

The date of her younger sister Runa’s nuptials however could not be finalised at that time, as groom Jamil’s family was in two minds about timing of the ceremony after losing nine family members in the fire that killed 119.

Talking to The Daily Star late last night, PMO Director General Deena Huq said Jamil’s family has given their consent and the weddings will be held at Gonobhaban tonight.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very sincere about the weddings and she will do everything for them,” she added.

Deena said a team from the PMO has bought almost everything necessary for the wedding.

Former Awami League lawmaker Haji Selim, a member of the shopping team, said they have spent around Tk 8 lakh on gold ornaments, cosmetics and wedding clothes.

“Around 500 people, including family members and relatives of the brides and grooms and local dignitaries will attend the ceremony to be held according to old Dhaka customs,” Selim added.

The fire broke out during Runa’s engagement ceremony on June 3.

Ratna’s wedding had been planned for June 22. Local youth Saidur Rahman Suman is her bridegroom.

    Home-Made Last Minute Halloween Costumes

    April 14th, 2010

Need a Halloween costume fast? Here are some home-made last minute Halloween costumes.

Make tail out of black felt

    Black lipstick and nail polish

Use a tube top for the top, and cut off a red vest for the jacket. Use baggy pants that can be dyed pink and an old pair of ballet shoes.

    White and Red Face Makeup

Paint face white and add red rosy cheeks shaped in a circle.

Put hair in buns, wear thong slippers and the kimono (Chinese dress).

Wear your hair in rollers, put on a green facial mask or green face paint, wear pajamas, black socks, ratty slippers and a dirty bathrobe tied cock-eyed. Put a TV Guide and a remote in your pocket, carry a crusty spatula, optional cigarette hanging out of mouth, use brown eye shadow under your eyes to make bags.

Apply base make-up all over face and neck. “Scrunch” up your face first to emphasize your “natural” wrinkles, and apply make-up that is lighter than your natural skin-tone (work on a small a great a time for best results). Then “de-scrunch” and fill in the creases using a soft brown eye-liner pencil. Create sunken cheeks by darkening the cheek hollows. Emphasize the creases around your nose, and darken along your jaw line. Create crows feet by your eyes. Pucker up your lips to create wrinkles around your mouth. Add liver spots, broken capillaries, etc. Blend everything with a make-up sponge. If you use make-up with a small amount of yellow added, you’ll get a more realistic look. Use the same techniques on your hands for more realism. When you are all done, power allover with baby powder to set make-up and give a dry skin appearance. You can also use baby powder to make your hair look gray.
