MORETON Bay Regional Council is set to slash the number of local laws from 60 to only six when it replaces the laws it inherited from the Pine Rivers, Caboolture and Redcliffe councils.

Mayor Allan Sutherland said the draft laws were more consistent and took the views and wishes of residents into account.

“The new laws cover things such as keeping animals, parking, overgrown allotments, use of public spaces and rules for outdoor dining for restaurants and cafes,’’ Cr Sutherland said.

“It’s the result of a comprehensive review aimed at making local laws easier to understand while protecting our envied lifestyle and environment.’‘

The public will have six weeks to comment on the proposed laws after they are released next Monday.

The simplification and amalgamation of local laws across the three former councils is a state government requirement under the Local Government Act.
