DEFEAT HOST CARLETON UNIVERSITY RAVENS, 58-53, TO FINISH A PERFECT 3-0, AT RAVENS’ NEST.

The Bishop’s University Gaiters (QSSF) defeated the Carleton University Ravens (OUA East), 58-53, to win the 3rd Annual Loeb Glebe Women’s Basketball Tournament with a perfect weekend record of 3-0.  The Ravens finished their own tournament 0-3.  In the earlier game on Sunday the UPEI Panthers (AUS) finished second at the tournament with a 2-1 record, by defeating the University of Guelph Gryphons (OUA West), 70-63.  Guelph finished third with a 1-2 record. 

Bishop’s joins the University of Calgary Dinos (2006) and the Laval University Rouge et OR (2007) as recipients of the Loeb Glebe Championship Trophy for winning Carleton’s Women’s Basketball Tournament. 

The Gaiters were led by the Tournament Most Valuable Player, Laure Pitfield, Ottawa, Ontario with a game high 14-point performance, Tournament All-Star Katy Germain, Val d’Or, Quebec added 12-points in the victory over Carleton.  The Ravens Julie Hoo, Huntsville, Ontario and Ines Jelic, London, Ontario each scored a team high 12-points as Tournament All-Star Tanya Perry, Barrie, Ontario added 10-points and 8-rebounds for Carleton.  Bishop’s out rebounded Carleton 36 to 28 for the game.

In the first game of the day UPEI captured second with a 7-point victory over Guelph.  The Panthers were led by Amber Glasser, Menifee, California with a 20-point performance.  Carly Lafave, Lena, Wisconsin added 10-points in the win over the Gryphons.  Guelph’s top scorer was Rachel Hancock, Ingersoll, Ontario with a game high 22-points.  Tournament All-Star Kris Yallin, Port Colbourne, Ontario added 19-points and 5-rebounds in the loss.  UPEI out rebounded Guelph, 34-33 for the game.
