Kicker L5 or Alpine Type R?? – Mazda Truck Forum and Tech Site

August 27th, 2010

Sealed boxes seem to have better cone control than the ported ones. Many say that ported boxes are louder.

So if you want sound quality, I would lean towards the sealed box, If your going to be in DB Drag contest’s, then you might want a ported box.

Google Steve Meade Designs, or go to youtube and look him up. That guy builds some crazy powerful stuff…..like 40,000 watts, 4 alternators, its insane!!!

I chose other in your poll, my reason being is that I have had Fosgate, Kicker Comp VR, Pioneer subs, mids, and tweeters.

I have found that JL Audio is the most durable and has the best sound quality.

I kept blowing my tweeters, and I went to the stereo store and told him I need a tweeter that will handle some abuse.

He showed me the XR-100-CT. Its a 1″ aluminum dome tweeter. I bought that set of tweeters about 11 years ago and still have it today.

When I got my JL Audio 250/1, I hooked it up to the set of Kicker comp VR 12′s i had previously powered thos subs with a MTX 4320 bridged, they sounded great.

When I hooked them to the JL 250/1, I was listening to them and they sounded really good, but after a bit the foam surround started to disinergrate on one of them. Maybe it was just that subs time to go.

So for those reasons I am sold on JL Audio.

See the link in my signature about my Stereo build. I’m not finished yet, got sidetracked with the EFI

Car Audio | Cheap Car Amplifiers For Sale

April 15th, 2010

Where do I start updating my car stereo?

So, I’m a monster of music. I have a Toyota Corolla and the only thing that interests me is on the audio system. Mainly looking for a good bass. What do I. How many of us talk. I’m new to the world of radio.

I have a 2003 corolla s. I started by adding a new unit, the Alpine CDA-9856 and new speakers before, the Type R components Alpine Skiing It gave me a good enough for about 450 dollars. (I paid MSRP you can find it cheap, you have a bad link for later). After I replaced the speakers back with Type R as well, and added a kicker amplifier channel 4 to the power of these. At this moment I have a great voice and decent bass. Its no subwoofer, but I was able to hear it. This added about $ 300. I have a pair of Kicker subwoofers and entry level wired with another external amplifier, and this gives me serious enough that the center rear View mirror isn’t usable. He shakes the front seats, a lil and back pretty good. It was about 350 more in total cost. Thus, for 1000 or if you can get a real Nice system. In all honesty, you can skip the AMP 4 channel, cuz it adds only about 6 decibels to the voice, for $ 300 would not sentence u) If you want a lot of bass, go with an Alpine Type R or Type X Im upgrading to an X-type this summer. In a properly constructed enclosure, type X is 145-155 dB bass. Believe me thats a lot. This in addition to the amplifier to power, it will put you back around $ 600. Check out crutchfield.com and go to Learning section. They have tons of information about the staging out the sound in your car and the optimization of the surface of the installation. Do not buy anything them, they charge MSRP right, and the cost quickly adds up. For shopping, visit onlinecarstereo.com, hifisoundconnection.com sonicelectronix.com or all of they sell a wide variety at very low prices. Hope I’ve given you enough of a nudge in the world of stereo. Send me an email to whether you need / want more info on my configuration or general information.
