Holliday girls zip past Keene
ROUND ROCK, Texas — the Holliday girls cross country team improved all the way to the very end.
After a narrow loss to Keene in the regional meet a week ago, the Lady Eagles blew away Keene at old Settler’s Park Saturday and just missed a bronze medal, taking fourth in Class 2A at the UIL State Cross Country Championships.
Spearman won the 2A girls with a 92 followed by Cameron Yoe with a 103 and Brady at 123, just two points better than Holliday’s 125.
Morgan Lewis of the Eagles was 13th overall (8th adjusted) with a time of 12:16.91. Sara Cuba made even more strides in just a week. she was 36th at the regional, but 28th (adjusted 13th) in her final run of the year with a 12:43.05.
Cuba was used to success at state after taking fifth as a junior and 53rd as a sophomor. Lewis also was a state veteran after taking 22nd as a freshman and she improved nine spots.
Amber Loyd (48th, 28th, 12:58.34), Kristen Anderson (54th, 32nd, 13:01.56) and Kacy Stevens (69th, 44th, 13:17.95) rounded out Holliday’s counting scores. Sarah Soderstrom (13:50.6) and Janae Ervin (14:38.72) also competed.
Keene finished 10th in the team standings. Carley Glass of Luling won the individual title with a 11:42.33.
Two Wichita Falls area girls made the top 20 in Class A. Seymour sophomore Macey Siegert was 12th with a 12:25.84 and Quanah sophomore Olivia Jalomo was 20th with a 12:38.03. Kelsey Bruce of Bracketville won gold with an 11:46.89.
Quanah junior Cody Bodine was 23rd in Class A boys with a 17:57.99. Dylan Doss of Water Valley won gold with a 16:03.87.
Chillicothe’s Roberto Granados finished 29th on the boys side with a time of 18:03.12.
In Class 3A, Burkburnett junior Brian Keksi was 31st wit a 17:00.56 in the boys run after taking 22nd as a sophomore. Burkburnett freshman Alexiis Nobles was 51st in the girls run with a 12:45.64.
Katie Ruhala of Lucas Lovejoy was the girls champion (11:33.33) and Argyle’s Jake Roberts was the boys champion (15:31.72).
