JACKSONVILLE — A Jacksonville babysitter who police said was caught on a hidden camera abusing a young boy told investigators she slapped, slammed, kicked and hit the victim because she was angry with the victim’s parents, according to an arrest report.
Jeannine Marie Campbell, 53, of the 4900 block of Ferrell Lane is charged with battery on a child. She was arrested Tuesday and remains jailed on $75,000 bail.
The victim’s parents, who have two children, told police Campbell had been their babysitter for 2 1/2 years. They said that about eight weeks ago they noticed a black eye on one of the children and Campbell was unable to explain what happened.
The parents told police they installed a hidden “Nanny Cam” two weeks ago to observe the babysitter and their children while they were at work. They decided to fire Campbell late Tuesday afternoon because they were unhappy with the care, though they did not indicate they saw any abuse when the made the decision, the report said.
After firing Campbell, the parents watched the video from Tuesday and called police to report abuse. Police reviewed the video and saw the child picked up and slung into a playpen, hit in the head with a ball, slapped, hit with a towel, swatted 11 times and kicked, the arrest report said.
Names and ages of the parents and their children were redacted on the report.
