Why Model Kits Are Important In Childhood | All About Parenting

April 11th, 2010

I am pretty sure that it is safe to say that nearly everyone out there has a had a go with one of those model kits at some stage of their life and my experience was with a train model kit at a younger age at my Nan’s house. This was not the really expensive Hornby train set that a lot of people go for but it was an old wind up one that went in a circle. This really does not sound like something that is awesome to take part in but for a 6 year old boy it is pretty incredible, especially with the added effect of using a whistle.

As I got older, doing this got more and more boring which is when I resorted to winding it up as high as it could go in an attempt to derail it. How destructive to kids get as they get older, well the answer is, pretty damn destructive. It is around that stage when the model kits were changed slightly and I received my very first RC Helicopter. Luckily my father had managed to get a few days off around this time which was great because we built it and took it for a flight.

After a good day or so building it we were ready for the flight and it was pretty awesome to fly the thing. One thing you need to look into is that this was not the professional nitro helicopters that you often see people flying today but a cheap one that seemed easy to put together but turned out not to be.

One of the best ways that you can actually build up memories with your child is by doing something like this.
