Royal wedding called off in Sweden between Princess Madeleine and Jonas Bergstrom. No one knows the real reason on why the engagement was canceled. However, there’s been speculation that he had an affair with a college student.
“After having thought it through thoroughly, the Princess Madeleine and Mr. Jonas Bergstrom have made the decision to go their separate ways,” the Swedish Royal Court said in a statement.
The former couple asked for peace and quiet after the statement was released. In fact, extreme coverage by the press hasn’t made the situation any easier for them. A top Swedish royal-watcher said the announcement had confirmed some of the widespread speculation that things between the two were going badly.
King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia
Princess Madeleine Therese Amelie Josephine, 27, is the youngest child of Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. Her older sister, Crown Princess Victoria, is due to marry Daniel Westling in June. Princess Madeleine has not been seen with Jonas Berstrom in public for some time.
Press Treatment Toward Family and Possible Scandal
Sweden’s royal family is not used to the kind of attention. They have seen how the press treats royal families in some other countries. The family never thought they would become part of a scandal.
