Aycliffe Pupils in Germany

July 31st, 2010

Year 6 pupils from Stephenson Way Community Primary School visited Germany recently. During the week, which they shared with staff and pupils from Aycliffe Village Primary School, they visited a zoo in Duisburg. As well as all the usual zoo animals the group also enjoyed an exciting dolphin show. Later they visited the Irrland Maze theme park to climb the various bouncy castles, slide down the huge slides and soak in the paddling pool – a very welcome relief as it was so hot!
Children visited a small market town in Moers and a large city, Cologne. Here they visited the world famous cathedral where the three wise men are buried in a beautiful golden shrine – a very special sight! Outside of the cathedral they were entertained to their very own magic show from a street magician who baffled the children with his card and other special tricks right in front of their eyes. They also enjoyed a tour of the chocolate factory on the banks of the Rhine.
The highlight for most of the children was the final day’s visit to the Movie World theme Park, the largest in Germany. Here children were able to ride the roller coasters, see Shrek 4D, and many other thrill rides. Great Fun!
The long journey there and back proved worth it for the children who all enjoyed a very special week which they will remember for a very long time.
