Trampoline Exercises For the Exercise Newbie

April 10th, 2010

Have you always wanted to start an exercise regime, but feel intimidated by the rigid, strenuous treadmill routines endorsed by most gyms? Don’t worry! A lot of people feel the same way. Not everyone is meant for structured exercising, as for some people, it is perceived to be a boring way of working out. Some people prefer using unique or creative ways to get fit, such as trampoline exercises.

If you’ve never owned a trampoline before, now is a good time to invest in one. With a trampoline in your backyard, you can work out regularly without spending a huge monthly fee at your local gym. You will be able to do exercises that also burn fat and help you stay fit and healthy.

Of course, just like any other exercise routine, it is always important to consult a doctor before proceeding, especially if you have any health ailments. A trampoline exercise workout may be fun to do, but can be dangerous if your illness can be triggered by it.

Once you are cleared and you have your trampoline out and ready in your backyard, the fun can begin! While there are many different exercises you can do, it is always best to start with the basics, and then branching out once you have already mastered these. Here are some tried-and-tested trampoline exercises for beginners:

The basic bounce is the ideal first exercise to learn. Its level of difficulty can vary depending on your skill level. Start by standing in the center of the trampoline with your feet apart, and then bounce lightly without lifting your feet. If you feel a bit off-balance, it might be best to hold on to a solid and sturdy object while doing this. Once you feel comfortable with the bouncing sensation, you can then try lifting your feet, increasing your bouncing height as you get more and more used to it.

A suggested warm-up or cool-down routine before and after your main exercises would be the basic walk, which is literally walking, except that you do it on the trampoline. Lift the heels of your feet in an alternating motion, swinging your arms as you go along, as you probably would do when walking on solid ground.

Finally, there is also the basic jog, a fantastic way to exercise your heart. It is also literally like jogging on solid ground, except that you are doing it on a trampoline and are rooted only in one spot. Begin with a standing stance, and commence jogging by alternatively lifting your feet by only one or two inches. This is similar to some movements done in aerobics, only this is probably more interesting as you are doing it in a place where there is plenty to look at – your backyard!

How to Select a Trampoline

April 2nd, 2010

The trampoline has gained tremendous popularity since its invention in 1936. The modern trampolines were developed by two gymnasts of the University of Iowa who created them for the purpose of training tumblers. With time trampolining has become a sport in its own right, and has also become part of the modifications of popular sports like slam ball, bossa ball and basket ball. Owing to the increasing demand for the sport amongst masses, it has also become a part of the Olympic Games. However trampolines are also great fun in the backyard, and selecting the right one for you is important.

Several varieties of trampolines have been developed. You can purchase any size from 6ft to 17ft trampolines depending on the available space. Most people prefer 12ft trampoline which is ideal for most backyards and large enough not to have too many accidents. No matter what size you go for it can be purchased in circular, octagonal, rectangular or square shapes.

Whether you want to purchase a 12ft trampoline or any other it is important to gather all necessary information and details about it. For that online stores are the most helpful however you need to be extra careful in that regard because many web sites provide misleading information for marketing purposes. Therefore authentication of your resource is imperative.

Purchasing a trampoline is solely a matter of personal choice. Most people prefer circular varieties, however if you want something unique for your backyard then you can go for other shapes as well. However it is crucial to take the available space into account. If your backyard is not that big you will have to limit your selection of trampoline according to it. Other than size, it is important to consider the durability and quality of the mat, pads and coils to ensure your investment will be useful for many years.

After purchasing a trampoline, you also need the necessary safety and protection harnesses like enclosures and nets. These depend on the size and shape of your trampoline and prevent you from tumbling off the canvas. For maximum fortification you should use trampoline pads to cover the spring and the frame and avoid possible injuries.

Normally trampolines are very durable but if they are damaged or any part breaks off you can purchase it easily. Whether it is individual components or the whole assembly, online stores are an ideal place to shop from not only because they make searching comprehensive but also because you do not have to worry about shipment and product delivery.
