Linksys E3000 Review: Still A Lot Of Router

March 8th, 2011

The E3000 is Cisco’s new king of Linksys routers, replacing the WRT610N. It’s a pretty minor upgrade to the previous simultaneous dual-band beast, with two major exceptions.

Price$US180 MSRP.

ModelsAs you’d notice if you were a router nerd, Linksys has ditched all of the old model numbers – but the same basic stratification comes into play. E3000 is the top of a pile of new routers, replacing the WRT610N. going down the line, you’ve got two lesser E series routers that both run $US120: the E2100L, which runs Linux out of the box for tweakage, and it has the UPnP server too. The E2000 has selectable dual-band support and gigabit ethernet. then there’s the $US80 E1000, which is the new “cheap” option for wireless N.

VerdictIt’s got new software that replaces the old and busted Linksys EasyLink Advisor, making it easier to setup. In fact, it shares it with Cisco’s new Valet router for that’s expressly designed to be eeeeeasy to use. In a nutshell, it sets the router up for you, complete with a non-”please hack me and steal my internet” SSID that’s secured, and lets you easily manage basics like guest access. That’s a good thing.

The problem is that the actually decent interface doesn’t extend to its other new feature, which is a built-in UPnP server that lets you stream media from whatever storage you’ve got plugged into the USB port. UPnP is still managed by the ancient Linksys interface that’s been around for years and years and years. You just try explain to a normal person who wants to stream some movies to their Xbox what the hell is going on here.

Once you do figure it out how to set up access, it works pretty well. You can add and remove files using computer’s own file browser as a networked drive, and I was able to stream music to my 360 without a hitch by merely selecting the drive as an A/V source. Video, on the other hand, never worked – for some reason my Xbox never saw them, despite seeing the server clearly. and where’s the iTunes server, BTW? D-Link’s laws-of-nature-defying photo frame-cum-router has one.

As you can see, it’s pretty solid at moving stuff around, on par with my older WRT-600N, the two generations ago version of the E3000. (A transfer of a 1.56GB file to the attached storage took 8 minutes and 45 seconds.)

As for range, typically, we’ve tested routers at Brian or Jason’s houses in California, where there’s lots of space, and little urban wireless interference. instead, I put the E3000 (and it’s family-friend cousin the Valet) to perhaps more brutal range tests: how well they handle the interference from a massive flustercuck of wireless networks inside a NY high rise. We’re talking 30 other wireless networks at any given test point. Using iStumbler, I couldn’t pick up either router more than two floors above or below my apartment, 15m (horizontally) away, but at the worst point for both routers, the E3000′s 2.4 GHz band managed about a 10 per cent stronger signal than the Valet and my WRT600N.

All in all, you’re getting a solid chunk of router for the money, since you’re bound to find it cheaper than the $US180 official price. It’s no photo-frame/NAS/BitTorrenter like D-Link’s greatest, but the E3000 has a few more router-y things it doesn’t, like solid simultaneous dual-band 2.4GHz and 5Ghz wireless.

And that’s what it pretty much comes down to: if you need simultaneous dual band, and don’t want a Time Capsule, this is probably your router.

New software makes it easier to setup

A lot of router goodness for the money, with UPnP finally

Missing iTunes server, and other perks like BitTorrent downloaders

The storage interface sucks, and makes the UPnP feature less awesome than it could be

Industry's Top 2 Corded Drills | Makita 18v Drill

July 5th, 2010

A excellent corded drill is one of the most vital components of any tool-box, and although each may claim to be better than their neighbor, there are some power drills that truly do it better. Its also right that the most heavy-duty craftsmen require an equally heavy-duty tool, and these drills, built with uncommon power, precision, and innovation, exemplify top-tier craftsmanship while yielding always superior results. When compared to any of the competition, these two power tools regally stand their ground as the best corded drills in the industry.

Milwaukee’s 0234-6 (1/2?) Magnum drill is specifically designed for the most heavy-duty industrial and construction applications. With the huge power of a 5.5 amp motor, and the un-dwindling reliability of a corded drill, the tool has the capacities to take on any project. With speed control from 0 – 850 RPM, a reversing ability, and Milwaukee’s quick Quick-Lok cord that can pop right off the drill for simple storage or replacement, the tool is both convenient and versatile. Craftsmen continually accolade the 0234-6 for its exclusive brush cartridge system which uniquely allows you to change your brushes in, usually, less than one minute. The cartridge also comes with a spare set of brushes to keep you out of distress on the jobsite. Additionally, the Magnum can be adapted to many Milwaukee accessories to make your drilling possibilities nearly limitless.

Additionally, the Makita DP4000 (1/2?) variable speed, reversible drill is one of the more powerful, high-performance drills the industry has yet to unveil. With a hugely powerful 7 amp motor the tool is champion over even the most heavy-duty applications. The tool’s variable speed ranges from 0 – 900 RPM for the most effective and controlled drilling in a variety of materials, and because the tool is corded, there is no threat that the drill’s power will deplete or shut-down; a corded tool is continuously and consistently powerful with every (even extended) use. The drill is ergonomically designed to provider users with optimized control and comfort, and because the tool’s side handle oh so nicely rotates a complete 360 degrees, the drill is also surprisingly versatile. Designed with an all ball-bearing construction the tool boasts maximized durability, overall longevity, and smooth operation, and with easily accessible brushes, brush replacements are a far simpler process.

Satisfying all the drilling needs of industrial craftsmen, these models leave nothing to be wanted and bring unique, durable professionalism to your projects. Each offers the unmatched power of a corded, non-dwindling power source, the brilliance of their brand, and the straight-up drilling power to complete your applications better. Representing the absolute best in the tool business, the 0234-6 and DP4000 are forces you’ll certainly want fighting at your side.

DeWalt is your best bet for long life and power.

ive had the same question asked here casiive the best record between Sears and cable porteroestado receiving a lot of good points in Porter Cableahora Sears is offering a sale on a combo of tools poweer by about 149, I also believe porter cable is at Lowes!

I work that sells Dewalt and she returned not only eat well atrás.Más for the homeowner, but not someone who will be using for the job.

I would recommend Ryobi, are inexpensive and are good for the homeowner, if you are a contractor would go with Milwaukee, but from what I read, Ryobi will work fine for what you necesita.Me like to get a cordless drill 18 volts, has a large amount of energy, and batteries are cheap.

Additional 18-volt batteries will cost about $ 20 and drill cost around 90-100 for the plus one, but you will get a Ryobi radio witch works in the cells more or a flashlight. I have a cable-Sierra Sierra Ryobi. Is a variable speed and has done everything that had to do.

Why Soccer Practice Drills Are So Important

April 7th, 2010

If there is still a soccer coach or player in this world that do not know the importance of soccer practice drills then that person should not be allowed to get involved in another match again. Drills are like the main event of any training session. Without it, training will be incomplete and will not be as effective. What these drills do is instill in the minds of the players the basic movements needed in a game of soccer. Ultimately, these individuals will come to acknowledge the importance of drills.

Drills as Important Part of Training

Almost all coaches employ soccer practice drills as part of regular practice simply because they are aware of their importance. Many of them will start a training day with a series of drills to fire their players up. The drills also serve as reminders to the players of the basics of playing soccer. Many of the drills used in soccer are hard and they can get tedious when done repeatedly. But they are very effective in instilling soccer movements to the players. After all, if you really want something in this world, you must be ready to make sacrifices. It has already been proven that doing drills can significantly improve skills.

Soccer practice drills are also good in developing the overall stamina and endurance of soccer players. These two things are very important for any soccer player because of the fact that the game of soccer involves sprinting almost all throughout the game. The most effective drills in developing stamina and endurance include sprinting, running and shuttling from one point in the field to another.

Some Soccer Drill Tips

Players and coaches must remember that proper warmup is important before starting any kind of drill especially those that are strenuous. Players who fail to warmup before doing drills are prone to be injured. Jogging is a good and easy way to warm up before practice

It is important that soccer practice drills resemble actual movements in a real game of soccer. If such is the case, then it will be easy for them to adapt the things they have learned from practice to an actual game. Drills must also be used to strengthen the aspects of a game where a team or a player needs improvement. If a player is weak at passing then he must do passing drills, if he is weak in defense then he must defense drills and so on. Drills should also be used to improve teamwork and coordination among players.

If you want to develop certain aspects of your game then doing soccer practice drills is the answer to your problem. Many players have already improved tremendously by performing drills on a regular basis.
