Hornby R146 BR ex LNER Class A3 steam locomotive Prince Palatine

January 25th, 2011

This highly collectable model is the extremely hard to get hold of Hornby R146 model of the BR/LNER class A1/A3 ‘Prince Palatine’.  This Flying Scotsman type locomotive/model is in mint factory fresh condition and has been shelf stored since new.  it has never seen or been on a layout.  This rarely available 4-6-2 locomotive is finished in BR blue livery and with the correct factory colour coded spoked wheels and detailed valve gear, it is absolutely stunning.  This item was constructed in the modern manner and was only available for 2 years between 1994 and 1995.  This locomotive, numbered 60052, is just as good as the day it was first made and it would be impossible to obtain a better condition item.  we removed the model from the box for the digital scan and the model has all detailing exactly as it should be.  Wired handrails, white boiler bands and the banjo dome chimney are just 3 of the instantly recognizable features of this item and the model is just a beautifully made evocative item.  The 8-wheel Northern type none corridor tender is in just as mint condition and is clearly marked with the BR icon and coach lines.   it houses the motor and is fitted at the rear with the correct Hornby tension lock coupling.  The original box is in a bright, unfaded and sharp condition and is still sealed across the correctly labelled end.  inside the box, the original undamaged and sculptured moulded surround protects the locomotive.  There are no instructions with this item but the model is in just as good a condition as you could ever hope to obtain.

This item predates modern digital control but should be an easy conversion to be DCC ready with the correct Hornby chip.

As all of our items are collectables and may have been stored for a long time, we would recommend that if the model is to be run, a light lubrication and dust removal would be appropriate ( where applicable ).

A Reader Rants About The B3 Bus

January 4th, 2011

I don’t publish many of the rants I receive, but this guy deserves it. he used the word “supine,” and that counts for something.

Do you get many complaints about the B3 bus? I just sent off a complaint to the MTA about the B3. a couple of years ago, the T.a. was running those “coach” style buses which made riding unbearable, but at least at last they junked them for an upgrade. of course, Manhattan gets the newest, best, equipment, But my complaint is about lack of service, not which model bus I ride. last night as usual the wait was 14 minutes and then two buses showed up. This is common. I don’t know if the drivers are lonely or just have fun leap-frogging each other all the way east to Mill Basin. This a.M. I waited nearly 15 minutes and of course the bus got so crowded that many people were left standing at various stops along the route to the Q subway station. if I ran the MTA, I would fire the NYCT bus dispatchers who serve no purpose and then warn and admonish the drivers to stick to their timetable. Riders are so supine no-body complains, do they? Maybe Mayor Bloombucks and his acolyte Ms. Sadik Khan will eliminate busses and replace with bike lanes.
