Closures set for OV offices and library
Holiday closures are scheduled this week and next week at OroValley town offices and the Oro Valley Public Library.
Town offices and the library are closed today through Saturdayto observe the Christmas holiday. they will reopen Dec. 27.
They are scheduled to close again Dec. 30 to Jan. 1 for NewYear’s.
Town offices and the library will reopen Jan. 3.
Recycle trees at Naranja Town Site
Christmas-tree recycling starts Sunday and runs through Jan. 16at the Naranja Town Site, 660 W. Naranja Drive.
The Kiwanis Club of Oro Valley will collect trees from 8 a.m. to4 p.m. daily.
It’s free to recycle Christmas trees, which will be chipped.Residents can pick up chips at the site during operating hours.
Shop in OV for a chance at gift cards
The Town of Oro Valley’s Shop Oro Valley holiday campaign endsJan. 5.
Residents and other visitors who spend at least $25 at localbusinesses during the campaign can enter their receipts into aweekly gift-card drawing.
Receipts can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday throughFriday at Oro Valley Town Hall, 11000 N. La CaƱada Drive, to beeligible for the drawings.
The drawings will occur at 5 p.m. every Friday during thecampaign.
One grand-prize winner will be announced at the Jan. 5 TownCouncil meeting.
The winner of the final drawing receives a two-night stay at theHilton Tucson El Conquistador Golf and Tennis Resort.
Rounds of golf, 60-minute massages and breakfast buffets alsoare included in the two-night Hilton stay.

Child-friendly service on Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve worship services, including a child-friendlyservice, will be offered Friday at Casas Adobes CongregationalChurch, 6801 N. Oracle Road.
A traditional candlelight service with a bell choir andcommunion starts at 3:30 p.m. it is followed at 5:30 p.m. by the40-minute, child-friendly service.
The Revs. Lee Milligan and Marie Bacchiocchi will dramatize aChristmas carol, “The Friendly Beasts,” instead of delivering asermon.
Also, the church’s Children’s Chimes group will perform.
Casas Adobes will hold a second traditional candlelight serviceat 11 p.m.
A musical prelude will start at 10:30 p.m.
Daisies pass goal for stuffing stockings
Daisy Girl Scout Troop No. 320 worked for more than a month withthe Marana Community Food Bank to collect holiday food, with aparticular focus on items for children.
The troop worked on a “Stuff the Stocking” program, with a goalto stuff 1,000 stockings for food bank clients’ children, frombabies to age 13.
The troop exceeded the 1,000-stocking goal, troop leader PattiNorris said.
Stockings were filled with candy alternatives such as FruitRoll-Ups, dried fruit snacks, soft granola bars, pudding cups,juice boxes, Capri Sun, animal crackers and fruit cups.
Rural/Metro to host blood drive Monday
The Rural/Metro fire Department will hold a blood drive from 8a.m. to noon Monday at its administrative offices, 490 W. MageeRoad.
Off-duty firefighters as well as Rural/Metro administrativestaff are encouraged to donate blood.
Rural/Metro hopes to alleviate what it says is a historicalholiday-season shortage of blood for the American Red Cross.
The total time to donate blood is 45 minutes to an hour, whichincludes a donor-screening process and the actual blooddonation.
People interested in donating blood may schedule an appointmentby calling 219-2069.
Utilities commission seeks applicants
Marana is seeking applicants for its Utilities Citizen AdvisoryCommission.
The commission makes recommendations to the mayor and council onmatters relating to managing and operating the town’s utilitiesenterprise fund, electrical issues, water issues, wastewaterissues, street lighting, franchises for natural gas and cable andother utilities functions.

SaddleBrooke event to benefit troops
Tucson Troop Support Group will be the beneficiary of theinaugural Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering Jan. 15 at theDesertView Performing Arts Center, 39900 S. Clubhouse Drive inSaddleBrooke.
The day will feature two shows – one at 3 p.m. and another at 7p.m. there will be a VIP “Get to Know the Performers” reception at5:30 p.m.
Scheduled performers include the way out West Trio, cowboy poetRoss Knox, cowboy singer Dave Stamey and cowboy humorist BaxterBlack, who is the headliner.
