Cancer Experts Angered at Model Gisele Bundchen for Calling Sunscreen ‘Poison’

Gisele Bundchen is known for speaking her mind, but sometimes what she says is a bit controversial.
Bundchen has angered mothers in the past with her comments on pregnancy and nurturing children. She revealed how she regained her svelte figure by eating carefully and condemned those who refuse to take care of themselves by saying, “I think a lot of people get pregnant and decide they can turn into garbage disposals.”
The Brazilian supermodel also told Vogue that she feels breastfeeding should be considered a “worldwide law,” after giving birth to Benjamin Brady.
Cancer experts are now up in arms over the model’s claims that sunscreen is poison, according to Us Magazine. the 30-year-old says she doesn’t like to use the products, since there are too many chemicals. Bundchen prefers to tan before 8am, when the sun’s rays aren’t as harsh.
At the launch of her organic skin care line, Bundchen, who has modeled for ad campaigns for Nivea Sun products, said, “I cannot put this poison on my skin. I do not use anything synthetic.”
Cancer experts were quick to respond. “Sunscreen prevents damage to the skin and is of fundamental importance for the prevention of cancer,” said Dolival Loao, head of dermatology at Brazil’s National Cancer Institute. “This is not any poison, when a public person makes a statement like this, it creates confusion.”
