AN appeal for toys attracted a huge response from keep fit enthusiasts.
Members and staff at DW Sports Fitness in Widnes filled four giant bin bags full of gifts.
They approached Halton Citizens Advice Bureau to find children who would benefit most from the presents.
Hitesh Patel, Halton CAB chief executive, said: “CAB’s sure Start team deals with hundreds of families who are really struggling.
“So when DW Sports contacted us to say they had some children’s presents to donate, we were delighted and we immediately thought of mothers and children staying in the Women’s Refuge, many of who are CAB clients too.
“They say charity begins at home, so it’s great to see a local business supporting local charities, like the CAB and Womens Aid, whose primary aim is to help the people of Halton.”
Staff and members at DW Sports Fitness collect gifts every year.
Manager Katriona Leech, aged 33, said: “We ask our members to donate gifts and put a collection box in reception.
“The response is always fantastic.
“We usually give the toys to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital but they receive a lot of things. this year, we wanted to keep it local.
“Everyone was made up when we told them the toys were going to children at the Women’s refuge in Widnes.
“We hold different charity events throughout the year and are always keen to support the local community.”
The gym beside Widnes market has around 4,500 members and 20 staff.
