Report: iPad preorders numbering in 'hundreds of thousands'

April 12th, 2010

@abrahmm
I’m sorry, what exactly are the benefits to the iPad? There are better tablets available and upcoming that will be cheaper. Any “benefit” of the iPad can be found on those other devices and more.

I’ve used several Windows tablets extensively and guess what? They suck. The OS designed for mouse input depends on a stylus and makes the experience quite frustrating. The iPad is NOT a FRIGGING computer. It’s good for what people spend a majority of the time using their computers at home. Namely viewing content. There is a BIG difference viewing material on your lap or a foot closer to your face like a book.

“Let me get this straight. You are calling people that don’t like a device that is functionally crippled and lacking features standardized decades ago, you know like multi-tasking, flash, removable battery, freedom to install whatever you want, etc, etc, as holding back technology? Really? Logic escapes you.”

Same tired argument. Likes take one at a time shall we.

Crippled functionality: And what are we referring too? It’s function it to view content, how is it crippled and what are you comparing it too? It’s a new device in it’s own niche.

Multi-tasking: Really? What is multi-tasking? For the casual user, multi-tasking is the ability to go back and forth between different applications. Who cares if one app shuts down and another one opens if it happens in a couple of seconds or less?? If you expect to be rendering 3-D scenes in the background you would be fool hardy to expect this to work well on ANY portable device.

Flash: Puhleeeze. Flash is good for 3 things. Advertising, Navigation, and games. Advertising can kiss my a**. Navigation: Well sites that depend soley on flash will lose my patronage. Games? <sarcasm> You’re right there are no games on the iPhone platform </sarcasm>

Removable Battery: Great concept…..in 2000. I’ve got an iPhone and a MBP that seem to be doing very well without a removable battery. In fact my newer MBP lasts about 100% longer then my older one because there’s a much bigger battery in it.

Install whatever you want: The iPAD IS NOT A COMPUTER. Stop expecting it to act like one.

Look I’m no computer newb. I manage a mixed network at work of about 30 computers. There’s a time and place for scripts, the terminal, customization you name it. The joy of using Mac OS and to a further extent is that you can do 99% of what you need to do with out the hassle. If I can’t download some porn apps because of that so be it. So if you can’t see the benefit of computing with ease then you, like many otf the other haters have no vision.
