Many new and exciting toys have hit the shelves this holiday season. Some are even harder, though, to keep on the shelves.

Walmart store manager Bruce Bannister said the iXL Learning System, produced by Fisher-Price, is one of the most popular this season.

“I have not even seen one because it’s become so popular,” Bannister said of the toy. “they have really been flying off the shelves; we were kind of caught off guard.”

The iXL is a six-in-one digital learning system for kids from ages 3 to 7. the iXL is normally on the shelves for $89.99.

Another hard-to-find item this season is Hasbro’s Nerf N-Strike Stampede ECS Blaster. Only three were left on the shelves in Walmart late last week. Other toys have been hot sellers this year at Walmart include $55 bikes, computer games and the Xbox Kinnect, Bannister said.

While some shoppers look for more pricey gifts, many are on the hunt for good deals.

“we are selling a lot of toys around the $30 range,” Bannister said. “People shopping for gifts have been opting for things a little less expensive, and that has to be because of the economy.”

Greenville Toys-R-Us manager Cheryl Cox said Fisher Price’s big Foot Monster, Hasbro’s Alphie the Learning Toy Robot, Mattel’s Sing-A-Ma-Jigs and Ontel’s Pillow Pets are all popular buys for holiday shoppers.

But even with all the new toys hitting the shelves, there are still many classic toys still in the race, such as Tickle-Me-Elmo.

“Dancing Star Mickey is even beating Elmo this year,” said Cox, “(but) Elmo is always popular.”

Dancing Star Mickey is a Fisher Price toy that dances, walks and talks. It’s designed for children 18-months-old to 3-years-old and ranges in price from $60 to $80.

Furreal Friends has also been hot this year; they are toy animals that can follow the command of any human voice, just as a real animal. these pretend-pets cost from $130 to $150.

“Furreal toys are good if you don’t want to take care of a pet,” said shopper Amy Dawson.

Dawson, who was Christmas shopping at J.C. Penney at Vernon Park Mall on Thursday, said times were tight this holiday season and all of her holiday shopping was mostly done.
