MF Doom Feat. Big Ben Klingon – Expektoration | MisforMusic
MF Doom the intricate interlocutor starts this listening experience off right with his in your face wordplay and straight to the grill punch lines. With an entirely live performance recorded, we witness real time vocally challenging rapping over stellar beats and a very comical intro explanation of his album name. “Expektoration” is divide into one thirty minute track (Act 1) a 1:36s intermission and another twenty minute segment (Act 2). One of the most original structures for formatting an album that I’ve ever seen. Not because live recordings haven’t been done before, simply because it makes for a more transient listen.
The London born rapper who now goes by just Doom has been picking up quite a buzz in the states. With big features like the “Demon Days” Gorillaz Album, and multiple Adult swim segments this up and comer has certainly been making his way to the top. This live performance captures a great artist doing exactly what real emcee‘s do best, Expektoration. Very witty lines and comical imagery ride along on Doom’s flow. The man seems like a machine hammering out the difficult wording and rhyme placement.
Expertly Dj’ed the transitions are smooth and the cutting is pretty good as well. There is very little down time on this record. Doom releases line after line of multi-sylabyl rhymes, delivered with vigor. I can picture him on stage with his little mask straight killing this show. While most of these cuts are from the earlier “MM….Food” album and the “Operation: Doomsday” album we love to hear this almalgamation of lyricism being showcased before a live audience. The crowd is vocal and very involved with chanting out when provoked. This is a sure sign of a great show.
Act 2 is much of the same. The one thing I can say about Doom is that many of his tracks sound similar. Making for not the most exciting listening experience, but a very satisfactory one if you have the ear for expert lyricism, and you generally enjoy Hip Hop.
“Expektoration” is a great pick up if you love raw bars. Doom has such a unique voice. I never get tired of hearing him spit. There are a lot of great one liners mixed in here and there. I could quote much of this album but I’d rather you discover the Doom experience on your own. Currently Doom is finishing his tour overseas in the UK and Ireland. If you can’t find him rocking a show near you expect Doom to drop some more bombs on the Cartoon Network.
I Give this Album a 3.5 out of 5 stars not for a lack of quality but many of these tracks are almost 5 years old. I want to hear more present and up to date performances.
