Collectibles group has new meeting place

March 30th, 2010

The Ancient City Antiques and Collectibles Club has a new location for monthly meetings.

The club now meets at The Great Expectations Auction Company, Ponce de Leon Mall, and speaker for 6:45 p.m. Tuesday will be R.L. Lewis, an “original” Highwaymen Artist. Guests are welcomed.

The Ancient City Antiques and Collectible Club began in January 2004. Prior to that time, the club was formerly known as the Ancient City Glass Collectors Club, which had existed in St. Augustine for nearly 30 years.

As the membership changed, new members brought a wider spectrum of interest. In keeping with the member’s interest, the club converted to include all antiques.

Since the change, guest speakers have covered many topics — antique quilts, linens, flow blue china and silver.

In addition, members bring their personal collections to share at meetings. The club has taken several bus trips to Renniger’s Extravaganza in Mt. Dora.

Since inception, the club has contributed to the Lightner Museum, the Dow Museum and the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum brick fund.

Ancient City Antiques and Collectables Club meets on the third Tuesday of each month, except from June through August.

For information, call 794-5955.

I used to live there. I went there ALL THE TIME. It’s free. If you are an honor student, it’s free, too.

Some people customize Blythe dolls but I am not sure how you do that. Eyes chips and wigs are sold but I think the dolls all come painted with eyes and rooted hair?

There are unpainted plastic jointed posable dolls, some unpainted with bald heads and a few heads have eyeholes too.

There are also Asian Resin Ball Jointed Dolls ($100 for some really small ones, $250-$1000 for more popular 42cm-inch and 60cm-ish sizes). Most can be purchased unpainted (no faceup) and with no eyes or wig. or you can get a faceup done and change the eyes and wigs whenever you want.

Posted by Norman Rogers While I do not condone the use of loud music to torture anyone, I think there’s a point that needs to be made in response to this: Rock bands, including REM and Pearl Jam, want to know whether their music was played at the military detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. A series of Freedom of Information Act requests will be filed Thursday in conjunction with this week’s “Close Gitmo Now” national campaign, said Trevor Fitzgibbons, a campaign spokesman. The FOIA requests and the campaign have been endorsed by numerous artists, including REM, Pearl Jam and Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, he said. The FOIA requests stem from testimony of former Guantanamo prisoners that heavy metal, rock, and rap music — even children’s tunes — were part of interrogation techniques. The music employed by the interrogators at Guantanamo Bay was likely plucked from the personal collections of the personnel stationed there. The “annoying” stuff could have been…

I thank you for doing this, as most people would simply kill the rats. It’s nice to know some people know how to deal with a rat problem the right way.
