I typically have this close to the person I am interviewing, but not always. It will work fine if as I said there isn't a lot of other noise. If there is other noise, you'll pick up whatever is closest to the mic, no getting around that. Give is a try at various distances at home to get an idea of how well it performs. Hope that helps.
