App Boxx » antique perfume bottles

November 12th, 2010

Folks acquire all types of items, however why acquire everyday boring objects like shot glasses and stamps? If you?e looking for one thing unique to start stocking up on, contemplate vintage perfume bottles. These bottles are lovely and different. Whereas many individuals don? think about these as collectable items, they meet all the standards of collectibles and have a fun high quality all to themselves.

These stunning glass masterpieces are distinctive not only in thought, but in design as well. It? a really rare event once you find antique fragrance bottles exactly alike. They range in every part from style, shade, shape, type, and size. This fact allows for the chance of getting a large assortment of an impressive size. Unlike different collectables, yow will discover these antique fragrance bottles in all kinds of stores and shops. Relying on the place you look, their costs contrast as well. Typically you?l pay just .50 cents, and different times you possibly can pay $50.00.

The feel of the glass may be very unusual. Yow will discover raised patterns, like within the Petite Heart Designer antique perfume bottles which has flowers and hearts stamped into the front of the bottle. Some vintage perfume bottles would possibly even have an edged texture, like the Christmas Tress fragrance bottle, whose glass is cut. Generally the texture could be clean, and different times it may well have ridges circling the bottle. In the event you discover antique perfume bottles that have a sandpapery texture, which are rare, depend yourself lucky. While these bottles are on the market, they can be difficult to find.

You might also discover pieces that may sport odd shapes and sizes. There are containers on the market that appear so small it appears nearly not possible that you possibly can squeeze any perfume in them at all. Different times yow will discover extraordinarily elongated vintage fragrance bottles that look more like a slender vase, more than they do scent holders. One nice example of this is the Crystal Clear Lacey Intricate bottle, which appears to be like identical to a vase from a distance.

Other than antique shops, you can find them on the Internet. Along with finding a wider range of vintage fragrance bottles, you also have the additional good thing about getting these beauties straight from other countries. Some of these antiques can hint back to different nations, similar to Europe and Egypt.

A pleasant thing about them is the superb styles you can find. Typically these antique perfume bottles could be so distinctive in design they don? even appear like a bottle. One great example is the Lady? Learn Hat Society bottle. This cute container is in the precise shape of a Twenties woman. The Cat? Meow, Prancing Glass Hors, and Hen on a Flower are enjoyable proof of how great gathering them can really be!

Elaine was airlifted to hospital but died later.

In a statement Son Chris, 29, and daughter Lindsay, 24, said: “No words can truly express this devastating and endless loss of our mother and father.

The Anime Maniacs: How to Properly Care for Anime Collectables

October 18th, 2010

Are you one of the millions of individuals who enjoys the anime genre? If you do, you may enjoy watching anime themed movies or television shows, as well as reading anime books. If you so, have you ever considered started your own collection of anime collectables? If not, this is a hobby that you may want to examine. Many new collectors are amazed with just how easy it is to properly maintain and care for an anime collection.

Before focusing on ways that collectors are encouraged to care for and store their anime collectables, it is important to focus on the purposes for collecting. There are a number of different reasons why anime collectors start anime collections. One of those reasons is for making a profit. There are a number of rare, hard to find, and even limited edition anime collectables that can be purchased and later resold for a profit. On the other hand, there are anime collectors who are considered pure hobbyists. These are individuals who collect anime collectables and other anime themed merchandise because the genre interests them.

Regardless of the reason for collecting anime collectables and other themed merchandise, all collectors are encouraged to take proper care of their collectables. One of the best ways to do so is by leaving all new collectables in their original packaging. This step is one that is advised for collectors who have hopes of later reselling their anime collectables for a profit. Generally speaking, most collectables retain their values when left in all original packages. In fact, many collectable pieces will actually increase in value. Even collectors who may not plan to sell their anime collectables are encouraged to leave all new merchandise as is in the original packaging.

Safe and proper storing is also important. Many new collectors are pleased with their decision to leave all anime collectables in the original packaging, but many do not take any additional steps from there. To increase, as well as maintain value, anime collectables, themselves, should not only be well cared for, but their packages should be as well. For many professional collectors and dealers, the condition of the original package is just as important as the collectable piece itself, in terms of value. Be sure to choose a location that is safe, clean, and dry.

For collectables that are removed from their package or purchased used, display cases should be used. Display cases come in a number of different sizes. There are a wide range of display cases that are designed to fit a number of collectable pieces, including movies, books, trading cards, figurines, posters, and much more. Display cases can often be purchased online or from local hobby shops.

Despite the fact that many anime collectables can be properly and safely stored in display cases, other options may need to be examined. For example, anime costumes may be unable to fit into most traditional display cases. In these instances, the anime collectables in question should be properly and safely packed away. Collectors are urged to choose clean and dry boxes. Additional collectable packing supplies, such as silica packs and acid free tissue paper, are advised.

The proper care and storage tips highlight above are just a few of the many that collectors, especially investors, are encouraged to examine. Those looking to make a profit from their anime collectibles are encouraged to remember that the most money lays with collectables that are properly cared for and well maintained.

Penrith Dolls, Bears, Craft and Collectables Show has something for everybody

July 20th, 2010

THE Penrith Dolls, Bears, Craft and Collectables Show featured everything from fantasy to realistic dolls with its 230 entries at Panthers Pavilion recently.

The show was held to raise money for medical research and clinical care at Westmead Hospital.

Westmead Medical Research Foundation community fundraising manager Gail Ladner said the event was a success.

GALLERY: Penrith Dolls, Bears, Craft & Collectables Show

“People came from the far north, south, west and interstate to attend the show,” she said.

“The quality of the dolls and bears in the competition was once again outstanding.”

Mrs Ladner said the feature of the show was the doll and bear competition, one of the biggest of its kind in Australia.

Doll maker Pauline Ramage was awarded Doll of the Show for her reproduction of Queen Elizabeth I.

“She is extremely talented and Pauline has won several awards for her porcelain character and modern dolls in recent years at the Penrith Doll Show, Cowra and Canowindra shows,” Mrs Ladner said.

Research on 16th century attire went into making the costumes.

The queen doll wore hand-knitted stockings, pants, corset, chemise, farthingale and petticoat, and the overskirt was made from heavy silk decorated with gold braid and hot crystals. The doll had handmade white leather shoes encrusted with pearls.

LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4 Demo Coming Soon

June 23rd, 2010

The magical journey into a mixture of two fantasy worlds, LEGO and Harry Potter, is almost upon us, and of course that means there’s a demo coming. LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4 will be available on the Xbox 360 via the Xbox Live Marketplace next week, on June 7th. PlayStation 3 and PC owners will have to wait until “late June” for the brick-by-brick spell-casting demo.

What can we expect from the demo? According to the press release players will get a taste for learning spells, most likely attending wizarding classes, and you will get to “explore the Forbidden Forest.”

LEGO crossover games, historically, are filled with innumerable amounts of collectables and goodies so it’s a fair assumption that the demo will barely scratch the surface. After all, there are over 167 unlockable characters in the full game. Warner Brothers Interactive did not specify when, but my guess would be a week or so before the release of the actual game, which is June 25th in the UK and the 29th in the US.

Find out if you have a 'treasure' in your home

April 24th, 2010

The Treasure Hunters Roadshow, an event that purchases antiques and collectables for collectors, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 27-30, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 1 at Carmel Inn and Suites, 400 E. 1st St., Thibodaux.

“We get to see some extremely cool stuff and rare items, and it always makes for a fun show,” said Matthew Enright, vice president of media relations for Treasure Hunters Roadshow.

One Thibodaux resident excited to learn about the upcoming antique show was Murray Dennis, who said that any antique show is a positive because it gets people thinking about the past.

“Anything that gets people interested in what they have or what their parents or grandparents had is a good thing,” said Dennis, a past president and member of the Ta-Wa-Si civic club. “It makes us aware of our history.”

Dennis said she has always had an interest in antiques and collectables, dating back to her first antique purchase of a Thomas Edison record player when she was in graduate school.

“I’ve always liked older things,” she said.

The Springfield, Ill.-based Treasure Hunters Roadshow makes offers to people who bring in items based on what collectors are willing to pay.

“We give people fair-market value of what their item is going to be worth,” Enright said, “and we hook them up with people who are actually willing to buy them.”

Treasure Hunters Roadshow started in 1996 and has grown to 60 worldwide roadshow teams that hold 2,500 to 3,000 shows annually.

“We tell people to keep an open mind when you go through your attics, closet or jewelry boxes … you never know what might be worth something,” Enright said.

Officials with the roadshow are expecting to see more than 1,200 residents bring in rare and unusual collectibles. Local residents can talk to antique and collectible experts to have it evaluated and possibly purchased.

“Whether you like antiques or not, … being aware of what people used to use, what they had years ago in the past … it gives an appreciation of what was, and what we have today,” said Dennis, who said the Ta-Wa-Si’s annual Bayou Lafourche Antiques Show is scheduled for Sept. 10-12 at the Thibodaux Civic Center, 310 N. Canal Blvd. An interest in antiques “makes you think what are we using today that’s tomorrow’s antique.

“I like things that have a feel of history,” the 67-year-old Dennis added. “You wonder ‘Where was this before?’ and ‘Who touched this?’ and ‘Who loved this?’ ”

According to a news release from Treasure Hunters Roadshow, recent roadshows have unearthed a 1960’s vintage guitar — which was purchased for $100,000 — four gold coins purchased for more than $72,000, Confederate money hidden in the walls of a residence uncovered during a remodel, a hand-written thank-you letter from Abraham Lincoln and more.

Enright said while the roadshows started with small audiences in the mid-’90s, the shows have grown in attendance and popularity with the onset of “Pawn Stores” and “American Pickers” on The History Channel.

He said Treasure Hunters Roadshow has a TV show similar in scope set to debut in the fall.

“Ours is going to really be able to tie even more of a closeness to it,” Enright said, “because … our show actually goes into the homes of the people finding these items.”

Officials say you can bring in coins, paper currency issued prior to 1965, toys, dolls, trains, vintage jewelry, old and modern musical instruments, war memorabilia, gold and silver jewelry, costume jewelry, advertising memorabilia, swords, knives, daggers and the unusual.

The event is free and open to the public.

Choose a Belly Dance Balancing Sword

April 20th, 2010

Choose a Belly Dance Balancing Sword

“Dancing” is a part of culture which has been entertaining us since the beginning of civilization. But the culture can be changed with time and so the art of dance can be changed. Besides different nation has different types of dance and they bear their own nationalism. Though the art of dancing is changing, its basic remain constant.

Belly dance is very popular which specially held in middle east countries and a specific dance pants are used. These pants are known as “Harem pants”. These pants are generally used by the belly dancers under the skirt or even as an individual garment.

There’s really no shortcut to learning sword – canes have a completely different weight and balance, so learning the moves with a cane or stick is not much help. If you’re serious about learning sword, you need your own balancing sword from day one!

Swords are expensive, so it’s very important to choose the right one from the start. Unless you have some experience with sword and can try it out before you buy, never buy a sword that isn’t specifically designed for belly dancing.

The reason is the balance point. A sword that’s been designed for dancing will have its balance point towards the centre of the sword, so the hilt and the point hang fairly evenly on either side of your head That leaves as much clear space as possible under the sword for arm movements, without the risk of knocking the sword off your head!

Swords designed as collectables or for swordplay often have a balance point up near the hilt (the handle). That means the handle will sit very close to your head, while the blade will project a long way out to one side – if it’s a very curved blade like a scimitar, the sharp point can hang down past your shoulder, heart attacks, and will constantly get in the way of your arm on that side. So make sure the sword you’re about to buy is a “belly dance sword” or a “balancing sword” before you hand over your cash.

Some belly dance swords have the balance point conveniently marked – look for three or four small notches on the blade. That gives you reassurance the maker understands the importance of the balance point, plus it makes it easier for you to set it on your head in the right place!

Chrome swords look wonderful – but don’t buy them. One of the biggest problems for women is that all swords slip when balanced on clean hair. Men can leave their hair unwashed for two or three days before a performance but women don’t really have that luxury if they want to look their best. Chrome swords are the most slippery of all, so the combination of clean hair and chrome is a virtual guarantee of disaster!

Don’t be afraid of a heavy sword. They may make a groove in your head, and they’re certainly frightening when they fall – but on the other hand they’re easier to balance, free license, because they’re less affected by draughts and tend to move more slowly, giving you more time to react.
