My Favorite Egyptian Collectables | Egyptian Collectables

April 19th, 2010

Good day everyone. Steve Williams here again.

I would like to share some of my favorite Egyptian collectables with you today. These are just a few of the many choices available, but for me they represent the heart of ancient Egyptian mythology. You can check out each of the items by clicking on the “Check It Out” button, or click on the banner at the bottom of this post to see all the Egyptian collectables available.

Aircraft parts auction

April 12th, 2010

TRAVIS Hughes is the first to admit that collecting old aircraft parts is a bit out of the ordinary.

“It’s definitely a one-off sort of trade,” the Kyneton resident said.

Mr Hughes has a large collection of aircraft parts, including many from World War II. He also has a collection of vintage cars.

His grandfather started a family business in the 1920s that specialised in trading wartime vehicles and aircraft parts.

The business closed in 1999 but Mr Hughes still has more than 1000 collectables, some of which will be sold at a clearing sale at his property next week.

Items for sale include WWII aircraft motors, parts, panels, controls, seats and tyres, a 1959 Austin Healey Bug Eye Sprite and a 1971 Triumph.

Mr Hughes said although the third-generation business had been closed for more than 10 years, people from all over Australia still sought him out to purchase his wares.

“I have found that sometimes the more unusual something is, the better it sells,” Mr Hughes said.

“There are always people looking for something different; that’s why they come to us.

“Some customers have been with us for 75 years.”

The clearing sale will be held on Sunday from 10am on the corner of Saleyards and Kyneton-Metcalfe roads.

Collectibles group has new meeting place

March 30th, 2010

The Ancient City Antiques and Collectibles Club has a new location for monthly meetings.

The club now meets at The Great Expectations Auction Company, Ponce de Leon Mall, and speaker for 6:45 p.m. Tuesday will be R.L. Lewis, an “original” Highwaymen Artist. Guests are welcomed.

The Ancient City Antiques and Collectible Club began in January 2004. Prior to that time, the club was formerly known as the Ancient City Glass Collectors Club, which had existed in St. Augustine for nearly 30 years.

As the membership changed, new members brought a wider spectrum of interest. In keeping with the member’s interest, the club converted to include all antiques.

Since the change, guest speakers have covered many topics — antique quilts, linens, flow blue china and silver.

In addition, members bring their personal collections to share at meetings. The club has taken several bus trips to Renniger’s Extravaganza in Mt. Dora.

Since inception, the club has contributed to the Lightner Museum, the Dow Museum and the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum brick fund.

Ancient City Antiques and Collectables Club meets on the third Tuesday of each month, except from June through August.
