Cat Urns: Making the Right Choice

September 3rd, 2010

Over the course of the years, we form very special bonds with our feline friends. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a few cats in my lifetime. The last one, named ‘Midnight,’ passed a few years back after a long and happy life in Colorado.

At that time I wasn’t making pet urns in my wood shop. I was focused more on creating unique bowls, platters and kids toys. So when his ashes returned from the crematorium I simply buried them.

Now, in a similar situation, I’d use a cat urn instead to remember my companion. I’ve put together this guide to help you select the best cat urn for your cat.

There are a couple of unique considerations when selecting an urn for you cat as compared to urns for dogs.

Sword of Truth Fans: Did you like the TV Show – Legend of the Seeker?

July 7th, 2010

Question: Sword of Truth Fans: Did you like the TV Show – Legend of the Seeker?
Yes?

Additional Details
Yes, Legend of the Seeker is loosely (very loose) based on a novel series by the author – Terry Goodkind – called The Sword of Truth. There are 11 novels in it and a companion novel that comes after the series but is set in our world. You’d have to read the whole series through to understand it. Also, there is a new novel coming out in early 2011 or so I’ve read. It looks quite cool and the front cover is made partly by the author, himself, unlike all the other novels. It’s called – The Omen Machine. Check out the novel series and you will not be dissapointed. The first book is – Wizard’s First Rule. You can find reviews of them online although you’ll probably have to buy them in a book store if you want to read them.

Answer: I have not read the books Sword of Truth but I REALLY like the TV show!!! I watch it with my husband and I like it because of all the sword fights and fantasy in it. Actually… I didn’t know before that that show was based on novels?

Music DVD Review: Queen + Paul Rodgers – Live In Ukraine

When surviving Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor (John Deacon hung up his bass guitar for good in 1998) got together with legendary rock frontman Paul Rodgers for a one-off tour and companion live CD/DVD in 2005, the results were better than expected considering how diametrically opposed Rodgers’ voice and style is from that of original Queen frontman, Freddy Mercury. Still, this awkward marriage had a very temporary feel to it.

How Domestic Burglar Alarms Work

May 5th, 2010

The most traditional way of ensuring home security is by leashing a dog or placing a dog sign outside your home. In a way, domestic burglar alarms are similar to your dogs. These security devices are friendly to their owners and they are hostile to intruders – just like your dog.

Domestic Burglar Alarms – A Reminiscence of the Old Ways

Your dog wags its tail when it sees you. On the other hand, if he sees a stranger or an intruder, he would start barking loudly. This barking then alerts you of intrusions or threats to your home. In fact, the danger may not come from a person. Dogs bark when they see other dangers. They warn their owners of fire or health scares as well – just like a security alarm.

This comparison has probably not occurred to you, but domestic burglar alarms really work like dogs. Accordingly, they also need to be placed correctly. Presumably, you would place your dog somewhere where you think an intruder can enter. In the same manner, you would also fit your doors, windows and other vulnerable entryways with sensors.

Dogs respond to danger by barking. Sensing or seeing possible threats triggers them to respond. In the same way, domestic burglar alarms are triggered by threats and intrusions as well. In truth, you can always opt for a dog. However, many people still prefer installing security devices inside their homes because there are so many things that these devices can do that their dogs can’t.

For instance, you can attach a security device to your telephone. You can program your domestic burglar alarms to page you or call you every time they triggered by intrusions. You can get your device to directly alert the police or the fire department. Of course, the more high-tech your device is the more expensive it is. Still, it requires less management than a dog which needs to be bathe, fed and walk. You can always get a dog, however, for a companion.

Placing Your Domestic Burglar Alarms

Now, if you have decided to purchase domestic burglar alarms, you need to make sure that you place the sensors strategically. You need to place them in vulnerable places in your home. If you have a big kitchen window where you think an intruder can fit through, then place a sensor there. You should also make sure that your siren is placed somewhere where it can freely make a sound whenever it is triggered. Ideally, your neighbors should also be able to hear the alarm when it goes off.

Domestic burglar alarms are fairly similar to dogs. However, the former is always a better choice when it comes to home protection and security.
